An art exhibition marking the centenary of the 1926 General Strike has opened at #Tynemouth #Metro station’s Bridge Gallery. Broken Lines, on display until 12 July, features colourful banners created by more than 30 people working with North #Tyneside #Art Studio (NTAS). The exhibition explores the regional impact of the strike, including the derailment of the Flying Scotsman near Cramlington, when eight miners were later sentenced to a total of 48 years’ penal servitude, despite no deaths and only one minor injury. Nexus says the exhibition highlights the role of the Metro’s Art on Transport Programme in showcasing public art, while NTAS says the project reflects themes of community, division and resilience that remain relevant a century later.
