I finished reading the first book of the year.
Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is definitely food for thought coming from the book.
I have already made changes to my life and said no a few times.

He's a teacher on #elementaryschool and wants to start a small #coding project.I can remember software witch uses coding-blocks for childeren to build small games.

My 8 year old son has fallen in love with this old laptop that honestly isn’t useful for that much as the speed and wifi is so slow.
But he says he wants to learn how to code on it.
@codemonkeymike yes, I would recommend learning Racket. The Racket language is relatively lightweight compared to modern app development frameworks such as VSCode so runs nice and fast on older hardware, and it is designed specifically for teaching coding. There are some nice books aimed at kids for teaching Racket as well:
It is about as easy as learning BASIC was when I was a kid.

Today's #paperOfTheDay is "Why there is Nothing rather than something: A theory of the cosmological constant" from 1988. Like yesterday's paper, it deals with the intersection between quantum field theory and #generalRelativity, but the 30 years between them clearly show. Coleman's 1988 paper is an argument in the style of that time (which structurally is quite similar to much of the older #renormalon literature): Heuristic manipulations of formal objects such as the wave function of the universe, or divergent sums over all spacetime geometries. The outcome of this argument is that if #wormholes exist (caused by quantum effects at a scale that is much smaller than observations, but larger than the Planck scale), they can drive the cosmological constant to zero in an Euclidean path integral formulation of general relativity. As always with Coleman, the language is quite funny and frank about the paper's limitations: He writes "Although I find this theory in many ways very attractive, I must honestly stress its speculative character. It rests on wormhole dynamics and the Euclidean formulation of quantum gravity. This is doubly a house built on sand. [...] the Euclideon formulation of gravity is not a subject with firm foundations and clear rules of procedure; indeed, it is more like a trackless swamp". Just us at Iffy Books (319 N. 11th St. #2I) at 6:30pm on Monday, March 13th to send letters of solidarity to American Indian Movement elder and boarding school survivor Leonard Peltier . February 27th to March 8th of this year marks 50 years since the Lakota standoff with oppressive colonial forces at Wounded Knee. Wounded Knee is also where, on December 29, 1890, the 7th Calvary massacred approximately 200 unarmed Lakota of Chief Bigfoot’s band. The gathering in 1973 was in response to the oppressive conditions forced on indigenous communities by the Bureau of Indian Affairs– the escalation into a standoff typifies the aggressive stance of government agents towards native people advocating for themselves.
Leonard was a member of the American Indian Movement active in the 1970s. It is his involvement in supporting rights for indigenous people that set the stage for the accusation that he participated in the killing of FBI agents. It’s unconscionable that he’s been left to rot in a federal penitentiary for nearly half a century after being convicted on false evidence . In 2009, Leonard had his first and only parole hearing. He was given a 25-year hit, an exorbitant length that is rarely, if ever, given. His legal team and many supporters worldwide are now seeking executive clemency for him. Let’s send him some love to fortify his strength and resilience, and lend support for his fight for freedom.
