I have about 50 modules running on my main Foundry game/world. I kinda want to start fresh now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing and what I need. Before I do that though I want to test some other modules and then go from there. I'm also curious on the timeline for when version 13 will be released.

Despite me being an absolute performance addict beyond reason, I have decided not to write my dice roller entirely in C++, for now. At least not until Godot 4.2 comes out, which brings hot-reloading to GDExtension.

GDScript is slow, and I really hate wasting people's CPU cycles, but prototyping the game logic is just so much quicker because it's right in the editor and changes are applied immediately.

I am also certain that I will be able to convert GDScript to GDExtension C++ fairly easily, because all I do is call engine functions, basically. It's just a matter of translating the syntax.

Last but not least, It would make a nice case study to directly compare the same implementations in GDScript and GDExtension C++.

The last few weeks I started getting interested in using VTTs for my next few games. I seem to have slept through the rise of those for the last few years, mostly because my kids were not at an age where playing online regularly was feasible.

So when I was looking for tokens I found a lot of options, many of them free. What i didn’t find though was stuff that had that OSR kind of charm of reusing old public domain sources, which I think might fit beautifully with, e.g. Dyson’s style of maps.

So I went and spent a few hours with Wikimedia Commons and TokenTool, making a small collection of tokens sourced from public domain illustrations.

I also found a few new artists that I should look more into, so even if I never get around actually using many of them I have at least that. I think I need to expand this thing though. It still is missing a lot of the monsters and NPCs I think I might need for my game.

Having seen Fantasy Grounds, I'm not as impressed with it in contrast TBH. Our DM sometimes loses tokens. Explorable darkness never seems to get used. Maybe he's just not a power user, but I know exactly how to do all those things with Roll20

Maybe Foundry is better? But TBH I'm fine w/ the subscription model if it keeps getting me features

#foundryvtt ist ein Virtual Table Top für #penandpaper RPGs, das man nur einmal kauft und dann auf dem eigenen Server hosten kann. Man fügt dann über Module genau die Inhalte hinzu, die man für die eigene Spielrunde braucht. Ziemlich genial, die ganze Sache hat aber auch einen Nachteil: Um das Ding auf meinem VPS zum Laufen zu bringen, muss ich mich offenbar mit #Docker auseinandersetzen...
