    Personally, I believe Apple did the product wrong:

    - It was perfect for businesses, but marketed to consumers.
    - Too bulky and battery life was the big problem
    - The UI was perfect but there was no "killer app".

    I always recall the Wii Sports effect: put the killer app for free and the device will sell itself.
