Continuing to experiment with the "pale mist" dynamic lighting beta in #Roll20

Preview-as-a-token feels kinda broken (I don't think I'm really seeing what the PCs will see ...)

Part of the challenge is that I'm trying to use "pale mist" as actual rain/mist (as our vengeful adventurers are trekking through the Mistmarsh).

Big day personally. After subscribing to Roll20 for many years I just cancelled and am in the process of exporting my data. It's a shame, but so many features have languished for so long. My next VTT? I am already using D&D Beyond Maps, but I hope to find something to play non-D&D games at some point. No rush for now though. #TTRPG #DnD #Roll20 #VTT

I am not sure what the deal is with roll20 linking up with demiplane to provide some character sheets? I was sort of interested in testing out Starfinder 2e. I was a little shocked that there is some kind of demiplane connection to do that now.

I find filling out the options for Starfinder 2e cumbersome, but I am old and a complainer. I kind of wish there was a character generator that just asked a series of questions like...

Do you like to fighting, sneaking, healing, or magic?

Is your character strong, smart, or agile?

And so on...

Maybe a bit like how a gypsy would ask you a series of questions in Ultima to determine what your class was going to be.

Is there a #roll20 community on Mastodon?

I have the feeling that they are drifting away from being a generic Online Tabletop plattform towards a D&D Marketplace.

All my campaigns where I am DMing are written by me. Roll20 is making this harder and harder for me.

With "Jumpgate" the tools that allow me importing my own stuff will stop working.

Also they invest more and more into making stuff for D&D and very little for generic Tabletop players (I play the German Midgard system).

This #VR indie game #Aexia is looking interesting. It's like #Roll20 or #Foundry. A virtual tabletop but entirely in virtual reality.

I can't help to think how nice it would be if #VRChat had a toolbox or inventory system built inside it like this. Then you'd already have access to a vast library of avatars and maps and a platform that most roleplayers are already familiar with. Building in #Blender & #Unity.

Been running a #faterpg game on #roll20. I like the idea of using a deck of cards to track Fate Points. Unfortunately, the official fate token art from the #evilhat site has white text, and roll20 puts a big white number on top of it, making an unreadable mess. So I made a version with dark text.

The last few weeks I started getting interested in using VTTs for my next few games. I seem to have slept through the rise of those for the last few years, mostly because my kids were not at an age where playing online regularly was feasible.

So when I was looking for tokens I found a lot of options, many of them free. What i didn’t find though was stuff that had that OSR kind of charm of reusing old public domain sources, which I think might fit beautifully with, e.g. Dyson’s style of maps.

So I went and spent a few hours with Wikimedia Commons and TokenTool, making a small collection of tokens sourced from public domain illustrations.

I also found a few new artists that I should look more into, so even if I never get around actually using many of them I have at least that. I think I need to expand this thing though. It still is missing a lot of the monsters and NPCs I think I might need for my game.

@RufuScott After having fun times playing #Mothership, #SentinelComics and (the excellent) Romance of The Perilous Land, some chums and I have started playing #DND.

We have reasonably regular sessions, online via #Roll20 and IRL (see photo), and routinely bemuse our DM no end with our bumbling ability to drag out a campaign.
