  1. In Raoul Walsh's Pursued (1947) Robert Mitchum is on the run, haunted by the past. Reminded me a little of Spellbound. Sometimes touted as a noir western but it isn't very noir. A psychological thriller but a bit tame and a bit disappointing.

  4. Ida Lupino and Raoul Walsh, ca. 1945. This would be around the time Walsh was directing Lupino in “The Man I Love”, their fourth and final film working together.

#RaoulWalsh was to have directed and starred in this #Western, but a road accident resulted in his losing one eye.

Baxter replaced him as the lead. #IrvingCummings handled the direction.

  8. Raoul Walsh's High Sierra (1941) made stars of both Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino and it's an important proto-noir. Bogart and Lupino are both mixed up in a disastrous bank robbery and then they're on the run in the great outdoors.

Lacks the true noir visual style but it's a great movie.

  9. We watched "Big Brown Eyes" the other night via Criterion Channel. Apparently not much appreciated on its release in 1936, both the Mrs and I thoroughly enjoyed. Snappy dialogue, good cast, cool cinematography. Also amazingly efficiently done with its running time of around an hour. Left you wanting more. Directed by Raoul Walsh with Cary Grant, Joan Bennett, and Walter Pidgeon.
