  1. Cops pretending to be criminals, criminals pretending to be cops. After a few years, “whose side are you on?” becomes a tricky question. We watched INFERNAL AFFAIRS (1999, D. Andrew Lau and Alan Mak), the film Martin Scorsese later remade as THE DEPARTED. #YabtM #reviews #YouTube #movies #film #cinema #FilmMastodon #Cinemastodon #gangsters #gangstermovie youtu.be/cTV40MtB72g?si=3UJ6lE

  2. Borsalino (1970), a gorgeous-looking hugely entertaining French gangster film set in the 30s with Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo oozing charisma and sexiness and coolness. Don’t overthink this movie. Just wallow in the style.

  3. The Secret 6 (1931), an MGM pre-code gangster movie with added vigilante justice elements. MGM's gangster movies had a flavour of their own. Fast-paced and very violent, with star-making performances by Jean Harlow and Clark Gable. Good stuff.

  4. The Damned Don’t Cry (1950), a delightfully overheated noir-tinged Joan Crawford melodrama. She becomes a fashion model and naturally winds up as a gangster's moll. A fine movie although Crawford was fifteen years too old for the part.

  5. MGM's The Beast of the City (1932), most hard-edged and violent of all 30s gangster movies. Based on a W. R. Burnett story. Walter Huston is chilling as the obsessed cop. Jean Harlow, unconstrained by the Production Code, sizzles as a bad girl.
