This is also the only #SundayFunnies Wilder film I've seen before, & only Cagney comedy. But I do remember reading he used to be a song & dance man before the gangster movies.

I saw M (1931) this week & found it interesting to read that Peter Lorre was mainly known for doing comedies (in the theatre) before that film typecast him as a villain.

The Crowd Roars (1932), a Howard Hawks race-car melodrama. Also deals with the uneasy dynamics that develop when a woman enters this male world. Very Hawksian. Grown-up action movie with some depth. James Cagney and Joan Blondell are terrific.

Alcoholic newspaperman Lew Marsh hits bottom, loses his job and is rehabilitated by Charley Dolan. After six years on the wagon he gets his job back and devotes himself to other recovering alcoholics. His boss enlists his help to sober up his nephew, Boyd Copeland, who has married Lew's old sweetheart. Boyd, who is involved with a cabaret singer and the mob, presents quite a challenge.
