#Today #3Things #HappyWifeHappyLife
1. Wife's new part-time gig (financial advisor) means various Teams-based training sessions and I don't think either of us were ready for big slabs of her time to be suddenly swallowed up in ways not of our choosing. Hopefully this phase will pass.
2. ATM she's struggling on an #iPad with a bluetooth keyboard in a folio case thing, but a moderate laptop would definitely serve her much better than a glorified phone. Now looking at reconditioned #Thinkpad listings.
3. Her employer has made all kinds of dumb IT decisions. Just 1 example: they insist on using corporate Google mail (gmail with a domain), but their IT security policy won't allow the iOS and iPadOS apps to be used so she has to use it in a browser, and that browser has to be CHROME. My poor iPad...
This kind of thing makes my #autistic brain explode so I'm giving her perhaps less IT help than I could in theory, but honestly when companies don't do IT right (and there IS a right way to do it), I'm liable to #meltdown very quickly. -

1. I managed to isolate a residential proxy botnet that was hammering one of my client servers, and after adding some new htaccess rules, I've got CPU and RAM use down from 95% to about 25% and no more 503 errors. #Tech #WordPress #VPS #Hosting #DDoS
2. Monitoring my posture more carefully while at my desk working (and playing). My #interoception is a bit unreliable like many #neurodivergent folk, but a mindful body scan approach may help, if I can stay aware of it. My trouble is that I get so absorbed in what I'm doing, nothing else exists.
3. View from one of my study windows this morning. More controlled and supervised burning in the southmost hectare, in preparation for cultivation. #Farming #FarmLife

#3Things that bring me joy for SUN: Day of Lemon & Sunflower
1. Local bookseller at Puget Sound Book Fair complimented my excellent taste in weird lit. I gave her a postcard of my upcoming book TRUST FALL; we're talking about a reading this fall!
2. Only 1 thing today. See also car accident😡 -

1. My AI model escaped containment and is now sitting at the side of the highway begging for DRAM and claiming it's a goose.
2. I may be getting to the bottom of my neck pain. Was playing Luanti, did a semi-automatic body scan and realised my posture was terrible and odd groups of muscles (including my jaw) were tensed...
3. Took wife for a drive in the mountains this morning, followed by a delicious lunch at a little cafe which, though it was missing a lampshade, had this view. #Sarangani #Philippines

1. I've set up a #Pixelfed profile for my goat and farm pics. If you like seeing the pics I post of our farm and animals, please follow!
I'll try and keep multi-pic albums to a minimum so Mastodon-based followers don't miss anything. Sometimes I'll boost here to grow the follower count. This is an experiment so I'll see how it goes. #GoatsOfMastodon #GoatsOfPixelfedhttps://pixelfed.social/threehillsfarm
EDIT: @threehillsfarm is an easier link! Thanks @foobarblubb
2. Wife has qualified as a financial advisor for Sun Life Philippines (Brava!) and is now steadily working through her contacts to see who didn't know they needed life insurance and related products.
3. Neck pain is back. I still can't work out if it's posture or pillow, and it's one of those things that, taken in isolation, shouldn't be a big deal, but somehow it slides a miserableness filter over everything. I'm going through the Deep Heat rub at an alarming rate.

1. After a heroic clearing day with 21 machete-wielding labourers last week, we're now doing controlled burns on our southmost hectare to prepare it for cultivation. Pics soon. #FarmLife
2. At least 20 of the young banana seedlings we planted 15 months ago are now fruiting (and are now 3m tall).
3. I'm trying to take more photos of the #goats, but in 90% of my shots they're barreling towards me to try and eat my clothing or get cuddles. Here are 4 of the better pics from today. None of Jonathan - the only ones I have of him today are patches of his shoulders when he was climbing on me. #GoatsOfMastodon #Goatstodon

A remarkably quiet day.
1. Walked the dogs around the farm twice, 7am and 5pm, as usual, in the hazy sunshine.
2. Spoke to wife at lunchtime (she's in Davao visiting her brother). She slept in until noon so clearly we both needed some downtime.
3. Watched some Secret Army episodes, read some fiction, watered the plants on the terrace.
Like I say, quiet. That's nice once in a while.

1. Did a very fiddly and intricate #NGauge #ModelRailway task that I don't have the energy to describe properly but rest assured I'm satisfied and happy that one of my coaches is now running and coupling properly.
2. Our guys work fast and we now have 4 #solar streetlights at intervals along our driveway, each on a home made 4.5m pole.
3. Wife is seeing her brother in Davao this weekend, so until Monday afternoon it's just me and the #dogs. And the goats. And the chickens. And one of our workers. And his duck. Quack. Went to mow a meadow...

1. Spot the typo above haha. I'll leave it in for Wind In The Willows reasons but had better add the #Today tag here.
2. Woke up this morning to (whispers) NO RAIN. First time in 4 days. All windows open and fans on, time to air out the house, give the dogs a long-awaited run in the sun and feel fresh again.
3. Far too wet for our workers to be clearing brush and cutting grass, so we've got them welding lampposts out of construction leftovers (we found 4 big solar streetlights going cheap to put along the farm driveway). They'll also dig the post holes while the ground is soft.
PS. I slept better last night.

⓵ I go through phases of poor sleep. The last few days has been one such phase, hopefully soon to end. I do various things to help me sleep; sometimes they fail. I think it's just something I have to accept.
⓶ A post I happened to see on here prompted me to download the old TV series #Tenko, which was broadcast when I was in my teens and I never saw due to parental censorship (we had one TV which showed whatever my parents approved of).
⓷ Though I'm extremely tired, at least the stomach bug I had over the weekend has faded away now with the help of buscopan and very plain food.

1. Wife attended a party last night which ran very late due to a power cut. So I was up until 1.30am (I can't sleep in these situations) and am now shattered. She could have ducked out early but felt obligated to stay. Guess what I think about social obligations.
2. In addition to being shattered I think I have a bug (or ate some bad food). Stomach unsettled and crampy, feeling hot and cold, not at my best. Today is day 3 of this. Rest needed.
3. Continuing to tweak my fresh #Pop_OS installation on my #Thinkpad - all going well. #COSMIC isn't quite as flexible as #Plasma (my previous DE) but it's already more polished and consistent which is quite a feat for such a young distro.

1. Absolutely, totally wiped out from championship-level (for me) #masking and socialising last night. I think I played the slightly awkward but normal husband adequately, but it always hits me later and harder than I remember. #Autism #spoons
2. Finally found what's been causing one of my tyres to gradually lose pressure (34psi to 10psi over 4 weeks) - big nail, as usual. Roads are not swept here. I'll get it patched tomorrrow.
3. Saw this rather beautiful little fern growing on one of our coconut palms. #FernFriday #Nature #NaturePhotography

#3Things that bring me joy for MON: Day of Jasmine & Moonflower
1. Feeling my book promo vision finally coalesce (still much to do, but still…)
2. Cooler sunny weather chills out my nervous system too
3. I love how my spirit animal says hello to me sometimes 🦉 🤣 🍳 -

1. Our recent #coconut harvest, though not our biggest by number of nuts, is the record-holder for gross profit thanks to bigger nuts and a higher market price per kilo for the dried #copra.
2. Some useful comments on my humungous #tech post last night mean that I have some new #ModelRailway software to try out.
3. My efforts to show willing for my wife's birthday event include a new shirt, which (after having bought it under duress) I actually quite like, despite spending 99% of the time in a teeshirt these days.
Added the #3GoodThings tag because they're all good today!

1. Finally hot and sunny today, thank $deity. Gave us a chance to go up on the roof with the paintable membrane goop and fix more leaks caused by the #earthquake.
2. Wife's 50th birthday shindig looms ever closer (Thursday next week) and I think we're just about on top of the logistics. Still a few things to do though.
3. Having major problems believing I'm 59 now. Mostly I still feel somewhere between 12 and 35 depending on my mental state. I suspect that's a thing with #autism and also especially with #CPTSD.

#3Things that bring me joy for FRI: Day of Rose & Vanilla
1. Successfully averted an aphid outbreak in the greenhouse 💪🏽
2. I have the best neighbors
💚💜♥️💛🩷💙🧡
3. This rainbow sun catcher on my front door is peak portal energy -
RE: https://ieji.de/@drewph/116892777172372140
1. One year older today (well, only relative to July 10 last year, but it's the convention to mark it)
2. Finished the last bit of currently-outstanding client work (aside from routine daily ticking-over stuff)
3. There's a super typhoon out in the Pacific and it's dragging astonishing amounts of rain over the whole #Philippines. We've had torrential rain for at least 36 of the last 48 hours. I seriously didn't know the sky could hold that much.

#3Things that bring me joy for THURS: Day of Wheat & Sage
1. Seeing my favorite neighbors home again after a long trip
2. TIL mizuna (Japanese mustard) flowers taste like broccoli 🥦 YUM 😋
3. Latest harvest of greens below!!! -

1. We're doing our quarterly #coconut harvest (we dry the flesh and sell it as copra). This time we got 4,375 nuts from our 130 trees (our record for 1 harvest is 5,090 nuts). Time to fertilize. #Farming #FarmLife
2. Wife's birthday event is in 2 weeks. I got a #haircut this morning so it will look less like a new haircut at the party but will still be neat. I hate drawing attention to myself.
3. Decision made: we're going to look for another dog as a companion for Max and Snowy. Now we just have to find some spare time to visit the animal shelter. #DogsOfMastodon

A morning #3Things #Today rather than my usual evening one.
1. Unknown to us, our farm workers added my wife's name to our barangay (village) #earthquake relief list and we got a care package! Rice, canned meat & fish, coffee, hot chocolate. It would not be ethical to keep it considering our level of income, so our workers (whose houses were all damaged) will share it out for their families.
2. Woke up with severe neck pain as I do sometimes. Paracetamol and more care with posture this morning.
3. Aluminum* window company visiting today to quote for some repairs and fixes. Screen doors don't last when you have dogs.
*The correct version is of course aluminium but here it's aluminum and recently to my horror I've found myself using the American version. I guess I'm becoming naturalised (with an s not a z lest I descend into complete savagery...)**
**Tongue-in-cheek alert

1. I may not lay eggs but I am a valued #goose.
2. Wife is on her way back from Davao. After 2 very quiet days, household is about to be slightly more chaotic (i.e. comfortingly back to normal).
3. Got a bunch of tasks budget-approved by my longest-serving client. This will boost the cashflow by a useful degree over the next couple of months.

1. My keel is more even today after our canine bereavement on Monday. I'm incredibly sad and missing him a lot but am thankful that he's no longer struggling or in pain, and doing my best to remember the good moments (of which there are many). #DogsOfMastodon
2. Wife is in Davao seeing her brother for a couple of days, as she does most months, while I look after our other dogs Max and Snowy. I think the change of scene will help her process her grief.
3. I am not a #tea drinker (aside from peppermint which I love but doesn't count). Much more of an #espresso addict. Today I tried #LadyGrey tea for the first time to see why people rave about it. Just black, no milk or sugar. Found it rather nice, with the extra citrus notes balancing out the #EarlGrey base. 8/10, will have again.

1. We buried Chubby in a shady corner of the farm up on the ridge near the chicken run, where he liked to snuffle around and sit sometimes. #DogsOfMastodon #Bereavement
2. Drove in to General Santos City (20km) to clear my head. Was OK looking around the shops, but in non-stop floods of tears driving home.
3. Having cried myself to dehydration, am feeling a little steadier. I know I will be OK eventually. But there's a big dog-shaped hole in my heart.
By the way thank you all for the lovely kind words yesterday. They helped a lot.

1. We're still getting aftershocks 10 days on. Mostly very small though there was a 5.4 today which sent us hoofing it outside and set the dogs howling. #earthquake
2. Listened to all 3 albums by The Mute Gods (Nick Beggs, Roger King, Marco Minnemann) for the first time in a while. Sitting at my desk, rocking back and forth, humming along, drifting away. Three remarkably good records. Love them. #Music #ProgressiveRock
3. Had the luxury of a bit more free time to assemble miniature laser-cut kits for the #ModelRailway. Simple stuff but still satisfying.

I don't have #3Things #today but here's one nice thing:
Our farm manager got a great deal on a new young boy #goat to join Mrs Goat and her young girls Jack & Jill (with the obvious goal of generating further free #goats in the future).
He's just calling him Mr Goat at the moment though to me he looks like a Thomas or perhaps Jonathan. He's very calm and curious and allowed me to scritch his head and stroke his shoulders straight away without any fear.
Mrs Goat is wary of him right now but she should get accustomed within a few days.

1. Our workers built a simple shelter at the side of our driveway to keep the rain off our little farm vehicle, pic below. Has room for future improvement but they showed initiative and it's a good use of spare lumber and tin roofing we had lying around. I grabbed a post and gave it a good shake - rock solid. #RusiChariot
2. I got out my modelling tools and built some lineside huts for the #ModelRailway (laser-cut kits from Modellbahn Union).
3. A post I made yesterday about #ExecutiveDysfunction and #TaskParalysis got some traction and hopefully I've helped a few people think more compassionately about themselves.

1. After enjoying JD Kirk's DCI Logan series of crime novels, I've now finished the Robert Hoon spinoff books. They started well but by book 4 had jumped the shark, and book 5 was so far beyond jumping the shark it was actually hurdling whales. #Bookstodon
2. For the last couple of weeks I seem to have been fighting #ExecutiveDysfunction. My executive is dysfuncted. I've been "fogged up". Interestingly I recently finished a long (4 month) stretch of heavy client workload and now I have much less to do. Are the two connected? Possibly. Somehow.
3. Grey day. Non-stop drizzle. Not my favourite weather. Made our mountain look good though, with wispy cloud between the foothills. #MountMatutum

1. My humorous comments on here hardly ever seem to land. I comment something that I think is maybe good-natured mild trolling or absurdist or whatever, then come back later, see people's deadly serious replies, and realise I should have added a massive trollface image or the word JOKE in 24-point caps. Is it them or is it me? I know I'm #autistic but... ohhhh, hang on.
2. Turns out we did get a little #earthquake damage after all. Last night there was a heavy downpour, after which I heard a small tap-tap-tap on the bedroom ceiling for a while. This morning our guys went up on the roof and found where the roofing sheets had moved against each other and broken the seal. Fixed with some elastic roof membrane paint.
3. I'm encouraged to see quite a few people on here with their own #blog that they post to frequently. Tempts me to consider doing the same. I like using words - in fact I often use many when a few would do... We'll see. Needs more thought.

1. Our preferred mall in General Santos opened again today following 3 days closed for structural checks. Wife went to get supplies with our farm manager and I'm glad I stayed home since apparently the whole mall was crammed with people and I would probably have been overwhelmed.
2. I fancied watching a bit of TV this month, and picked The White Lotus. Deliciously dark, highly recommended. Just started season 3, it's slow to get going but based on the other 2 seasons it will be worth persevering.
4. This morning I heard our elevated water tank filling from the deep well pump. It's huge and only fills every few days; this is the first fill since the quake so now we know the deep well wasn't damaged. Quite a relief.

1. Had freshly fried slices of home grown saba banana for breakfast, dipped in a little brown sugar... high in calories, even higher in enjoyment.
2. Max has finally decided he's brave enough to walk over the new footbridge under his own steam, rather than me picking him up and plonking him down in the middle of it (see yesterday's 3Things).
3. The more info I see about Monday's #earthquake, the more I realise how bloody lucky we are, with our strong buildings, solar power, deep well and Starlink connection. Here's a photo of the main road 30km south of us. And much of Gensan *still* doesn't have power, water or internet. We've been lending charged powerbanks and giving barrels of drinking water to friends in the city.
