Saturday 21st MarchCommunity Discussion on themes from Fires and Fascism: and how people are fighting back to create change.
The film shows communities responding to the threats of fires, big business, organised crime, and the far right, igniting hope and becoming more resilient.
Watch the film online via the link https://www.zeffy.com/en-GB/donation-form/watch-fires-and-fascism (if you can) before coming to the Library on Saturday to discuss local and global issues and anything you feel resonates from the film. If you can’t watch the film first then please come along anyway - the discussion is fuelled by local perspectives.
We know that fuel and community energy are on people’s minds especially in Scotland. The question of who benefits reveals why community power in every sense is most important.
What else is happening on Skye? The film shows action from #protest to #permaculture. What projects are going on in #Portree and what else is there space or need for?

Im günstigsten Fall finden wir was, wenn nicht, haben wir uns bewegt.
Für die Hinfahrt haben wir uns die Passstraße von Uig nach Staffin herausgesucht, natürlich waren wir nicht allein und richtig voll wurde es, in der Nähe von Quiraing Steilkannte. rb132 – SCO – Umzug über Portree nach Kilmuir auf Skye – 2023-07-16
Es heißt wieder einmal packen und weiter ziehen. Wir wollen diese Ecke von Schottland hier bei Mallaig verlassen und nach über 14 Jahren wieder mal auf die Isle of Skye abhängen.
Die letzten Jahre haben uns Hinweisschilder und auch Berichte von der mit Touristen überlaufenen Insel davon abgehalten. Es muss da zwischenzeitlich echt schlimm gewesen sein, vor allem für die Einheimischen, während der Hauptsaison.

Meine Fresse, in #Portree ist die Touristen Hölle los.
Wir sind zwar selber teil von aber meine Fresse.
Kein Wunder das die Isle of Skye seit Jahren als über laufen beschrieben wird, das war ja auch ein Grund warum wir hier schon sehr lange nicht mehr waren.

i do have a pair of sturdy hiking boots though. and i'm not averse to cycling if it's an e-bike and i don't have to bring it with me all the way from Norway.
usually, whenever i travelled, i booked tickets and hotels/hostels in advance. i guess buying bus/train/ferry tickets for same day departure wouldn't be a problem, but how do i find a place to sleep in, say, #Portree #PortRìgh or #Stornoway #Steòrnabhagh when i get there? -

The local heron population seems largely unperturbed by the increase in visitor numbers, tourists, traffic etc. recently and can often be spotted around, and flying over, the town.
This one, from the bridge on the accurately named "Bridge Road" was being a bit more elusive... for such a large bird

A wonderful sunset tonight - a deep red over the Kiltaraglen track illuminating the underside of a bank of clouds. The sky above retains the last evidence of a bright sunny day.

There’s an Indian restaurant in Portree. Our love as a nation for food from the subcontinent is great. When it first arrived here it was a delicacy too expensive for ordinary people. Indian recipes first appeared in Scottish recipe books in the late 18th C. Well-travelled Scots brought recipes back from trips to India, including the Barkly of Mount Eagle family from Ross and Cromarty. Their 1820s recipe book contains recipes for chicken curry, curried soups and curry powder.
