The tightly packed, thistle-like purple flower heads of common knapweed bloom on all kinds of grasslands. Also regularly called black knapweed, this plant attracts clouds of butterflies (sometimes…).Scientific name:
Centaurea nigraIt is a common feature of the countryside here on Skye and blooms from June till September.

This is a peninsula on Loch Bracadale which has no inhabitants beyond a certain point. It is a glorious place in which to roam. The paths you can see were made by sheep.
