Attempting to answer the age old question: can you make a Durston x-mid free standing?

Uhm, not with the pole set I have on hand from another tent. The longer, curved end is closer but overall too short. I used binder clips instead of walking sticks at first and it was pretty low and sloppy.

At least it helps air things out on the driveway.

Glad I checked the weather! It was sunny, blue skies, but warned of showers in 27 minutes.
Sure enough - I scurried to throw everything in my tent while it grew from sprinkles to showers to full blown.
EDIT: the rain passed and the (literally) out-of-sight sunset gave us this lovely reflection on clouds.

I remembered to grab some birch beer this trip
But it was diet
At the pool party free draft beer they also had birch beer, its sugary self. So that scratched that itch.
My other ritual is the grocery’s fat free cakes with fruit and fat free whipped cream. You’d think they’d be spongy but they’re more like regular cake.

If it weren't for the #smoke, I likely would have gone, even with the #rain Sat/ Sun.
Took Th/Fri off, cuz I don't set up the #tent Friday night & tear it down Sunday morning, I need 3 nights.
But it's #sunny tomorrow & lower PMI*, especially at a different #campground (which I haven't visited yet this #season) where I'll do a #DayTrip instead ( #masked, 'natch, if it's over 100).

✅ New 2mm dyneema guylines (100kg break strength) to replace the chunkier 3mm stock lines (85kg)
✅ New mesh inner tent instead of the enclosed winter one
✅ More titanium stakes
✅ Replacing all metal zipper tabs with rope pulls — our recent night with high winds made them rattle and the dogs hate that.
✅ Swapping out full size groundsheet for a 60% coverage Tyvek one.

When ppl camping find out I only use her in the summer, being a straphanger all winter, they inevitably ask why I don’t just rent a car.
This leads to the requisite question of where do I store all the camping gear and why take all the time to load up a rental each trip…

A bit last minute ahead of #EMFCamp — any thoughts on how best to repair a tent pole split like this? Will a glue hold? What glue?

This is for our Coleman Rocky Mountain 5 XL... it kinda sorta works with the split pole in a very misshapen way, as the pole bends more severely at the split section.
