The biggest danger from taking #cocaine or other #stimulants when regularly #driving isn't the high itself (whilst it can encourage greater risk-taking, a lot of users are paranoid to encounter #Police and compensate accordingly), but the #comedown - after a midweek binge this woman fell asleep at the wheel on Thursday lunchtime (!) and clouted a utility pole.

As no one was hurt she did not get a custodial sentence, but will have both a 22 month driving ban and *11 years* loaded #insurance premiums (and will likely be refused quotes by many insurers).

There was also significant collateral damage, she took out an #SSEN pole shared with #Openreach so a lot of people would left be without power and broadband..

I also reconfigured both routers to have exactly the same IP addressing scheme and gateway address on the LAN side, so I can swap the #VOIP #PBX and the telephones between either by just repatching the cable to the switch (all VOIP equipment has its own switch).

There are 2 broadband circuits from 2 separate ISPs to deal with (we are moving away from British Telecom to a local ISP my friend runs for one of them) and its a semi-rural site with *multiple* opportunities for #Openreach to make a pigs ear of it so I am preparing for everything!

Also tested redirecting the numbers on the SIP trunk to LTE mobile network and prepared next door office for emergency use in case broadband does get knocked out during this process (there is a different cable route to this office)

I've spent over 20 years waiting for any kind of wired #broadband service to reach our property in rural #Scotland, so you can probably imagine that today was a day I never thought I'd live to see, as I chatted with one of the workmen stringing new #fibre to a newly-erected telecoms post just across from my property. It's not even a community broadband project, it's bloody #Openreach themselves!

Might get fibre to the premises within the month, if not by the end of this calendar year!

I get 900/100 service from my ISP, Zen, but that's irrelevant, as we're dealing with the layer 2 connection between the proxmox NIC and the ONT.

If I force the link speed on the proxmox NIC to speed=2500 I get an error about the driver not supporting forced settings, and the link goes down. It only comes back up if I set it to auto again.

Like I say, I'm only on a 900/100 package from Zen, but I'd still expect the NIC and ONT to negotiate a 2.5Gb/s link 🤔

Question for anyone out there running a combination of #OPNsense (26.7.1) as a guest on #proxmox (9.2.10) with #openreach fibre:

Does your external NIC negotiate 2.5Gb/s with the openreach ONT?

Mine only negotiates 1Gb/s, even though it's an Intel I225-V (rev 3) NIC that is 2.5GbE capable, as is the ONT.

The NIC is not passed through to the OPNsense guest, it's on a Linux bridge in proxmox with the guest given a virtual NIC on the bridge. OPNsense sees the vnic as 10Gb/s

I'm back!

I've had no home interwebnetz for the past few days, until the nice #Openreach man came and fixed it. Turns out that the fault was ... the local scrotes had snipped the wire outside my flat. Snipped it, not just ripped it out. They did quite a neat job.

Anyway, what did I miss?

Now the other two are ported - all the #analogue #trunks are ceased and all traffic to and from the #PSTN from this #PBX is now #VOIP (using #PJSIP trunks on #FreePBX )

I disconnected all the analogue lines as #Openreach leave battery on them, that way they show as RED alarm on #Asterisk and won't be selected for any calls (worst case is they return a busy trunk status and the route will go to the next trunk, but I've taken away all the analogue circuits from every PSTN route)

I made up a folder for all my #telecoms tech info (for two #PBX I built, general #SIP #VOIP and #ATA configurations and other useful stuff as much is easier to read in paper form than on the screen!)

I thought the "Trunks" cartoon from @alex was a good choice for the cover, along with the "ELEPHANT EXCHONGE" lettering from a Telephone Exchange in SE England (after #Openreach engineers moved the individual letters around) 😁

There's other stuff in the folder than the Ofcom and ITU documents, about internal configs but I can't share it for cybersecurity reasons (I will put the sanitised info on my blog at some point to help others setting up VOIP systems)

One (1) #telephone number successfully ported to #VOIP, one more left to go (there's 2 pairs for main and aux line, provisioned on same number but those will go to 3 channel #SIP trunk)

For some reason #Openreach have left battery on the pair (I would have thought they would want to recover capacity on the line card and it would just go dis, as there are still going to be a handful of customers remaining on #PSTN circuits.

I thought a lot of "analogue" trunks these days were literally just a SIP ATA connected to the copper pair at the Telephone Exchange (or from a street cabinet) but it looks like Openreach really are getting the last out of the old #SystemX kit!

There is no dialtone or even NU tone, just some noise..

Having failed to check their paperwork until the second day of the 3 day permit, found it lacking they have now pushed this all back to the 27th Feb - 3rd March.

Of course there has been no communication of this, I've had to discover it by looking on https://one.network (like the last 2 times)

So we are now looking at 3.5 to 4 months late

ARGH! Work that was promised done before the 30th of Dec 2025, then scheduled for 21st Jan and pushed to the 16-18th of Feb has been postponed because the "safe prints" have expired (with no explanation as to what that actually means). Currently no new date available.

One has to ask when they expired and why nobody decided to check them before today?

Very useful #TestNumbers (for #UK #IE #USA #CA and #MX ) for testing all kinds of #telephones (from your #mobilephone to #VOIP and even any remaining #landlines) - they provide the same level of tests that #Openreach and other telcos have access to, you can check if #DTMF is working well and that #codecs or poor #network conditions aren't mangling the audio..

Anyone out there with #ZenInternet FTTP via #OpenReach having problems?

Mine went down at around 16:19 and I’m getting pppoe errors on the router (“unable to complete pppoe discovery phase 1”). Tried rebooting the ONT and router to no avail 😕

@tiggy It took four visits to get my fibre installed, three by Openretch subcontractors and the final one (yesterday) from an Openreach engineer. He did an excellent job, keeping me informed and discussing options how/where to fit things. I also noticed he carefully collected all the rubbish and took it with him.

Not impressed with the subcontractors but happy with this guy.
