  3. hi #FediFrens 👋 today I’m looking for your #recs for decent #AUSTRALIAN broadband providers for #FTTP plans…

I don’t need high speeds – something like a 50/20 or 100/whatever is fine – but will need an “unlimited” (🙄) plan, data-wise

    who are y’all using? 👀

    pls #boost4reach, thx! 🙏

  5. Oh dear. As a #Brsk customer I've been migrated to #YouFibre, but now I'm getting marketing emails for the latter saying they'll buy me out of my current contract (with them) if I switch to them.

Nice to know that they offer 200Mbit for the same price I'm currently paying for 150 though, that's probably worth looking into. Only a 12 month contract so I should be able to escape before #VirginMedia, the new owners of YouFibre, screw everything up.

  7. Finally Fibre

    blog.hardill.me.uk/2026/03/07/

For those of you who have been following along on Mastodon for a while you may have noticed the saga of getting FTTP installed at home. What follows is the full story in detail, this is mainly a Cathartic out poring to help me get some closure.

    A long time ago…

Work to rollout FTTP in my town started before the 2020 Pandemic lockdown, mainly because one of the Altnets had targeted the more […]

  9. Finally getting around to upgrading my home server from Debian bookworm (12/oldstable) to trixie (13/stable).

`apt upgrade --without-new-pkgs` went smoothly enough, just a few config files with local tweaks.

Currently wishing I had FTTP for the `apt full-upgrade` downloads. I'm "languishing on only 80Mbps FTTC".

I expect to have some issues to sort out once this bit is done, and I still need to re-activate/update my third-party repositories....

  10. Virgin's left hand doesn't know what Virgin's right hand is doing... and what it is doing is sticking sharp objects up Virgin's own bum.

They had a rep at our door every other week to sell us their FTTP.

We did decide it looked like it made sense for us in the end, and in our last place we were trouble free Virgin customers for over 6 years.

Yesterday I got a call to tell me they would be at our place to do the install 13:00-18:00 this Saturday.

Then today I got this text.

I put the order in on December 17th... install now rescheduled to 17th of fucking March.

(This is must be about the 4th, maybe 5th, reschedule.)

  12. Wow. An #OpenReach truck just rolled up and is preparing to lay Fibre to our street.

Finally ,it seems we will have competition on pricing for #FTTP service in our area 😉🖖

  14. Well finally ditched Sky TV and Fibre FTTP. Couldn’t justify the increase at the end of contract. Went with PlusNet FTTP, Now TV entertainment, cinema and boost for £11/month and a Firestick #TV #Broadband #FTTP #Fibre Seems to be working well so far.

  16. 5G Broadband Fail Over

    blog.hardill.me.uk/2025/11/28/

Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances I have been left in limbo between FTTC and a FTTP install.

My FTTP install failed due to a collapsed duct and my FTTC line was ceased a few days later (an oversight led to this not being cancelled). This was then compounded by being informed it would not be possible to reconstitute the FTTC line (which later turned out not to be the case, but not […]

  18. Full-fibre FTTP telegraph poles finally arriving in our village. Don’t know why they couldn’t just use the existing poles, and of course they’re ugly compared to underground ducting, but it’s high time the local Virgin Media monopoly was broken. #broadband #OpenReach #fttp

  20. After a very scary moment when it only sync'd at 10Mbps (broke a pair punching down the socket on the other end), the router now sync's to ONT at 1Gbps.

Just waiting for the fibre to actually be hooked up on the other side of the wall.

  22. Yay, woke up to find out the OpenReach has ceased by FTTC Copper Pair even though they failed to install the FTTP on Friday.

Really hoping @aaisp can get this fixed as I really need this fixed before I burn through all the data on my fallback pre-paid LTE SIM

  24. Ok I'll be honest, I'm impressed with OpenReach.

Aborted FTTP install yesterday morning due to blocked duct and someone has already been and marked out for digging. Now we wait and see how long before they dig

  26. ONT on the wall, PoE ready to power it all

Just a shame no actual fibre to the other side of the wall. (The duct appears to have collapsed...)

(all this to work round the builder who decided that having the master socket by the front door with no power or anywhere to place equipment was a brilliant idea)

  28. Anyone here happen to know anything about #vodafone #fttp?

I recently upgraded to their 1Gbps package but only got about 600 mbps on WiFi, and only just under 100 mbps on the Ethernet.

    I’m using their power hub.

Is this a limitation of their router? Any chance I can get the wired connection faster?

  30. @aaisp and all the parts have arrived in preparation.

New faceplate to replace the OpenReach master socket.

RJ45 to terminate the existing CAT5e the phone extension runs on and a brush section to let the fibre in.

The CAT5e will also supply PoE to power the ONT

  36. I've regularly mocked the #NBN about the free #FTTP upgrade I'm getting. Justifiably. It's been a saga. 🤷

However, the team labouring away today, the ones making all those strange noises, *are still working*. At 6:45pm. Official sunset is 7:09pm, but we lose it ~15 mins earlier. They start around 7:30am.

I'm surprised & impressed, & hope they're well paid for such long days. I *really* hope they're not being exploited.

  38. It's been some months now, yet still I hide with doors locked & curtains drawn. As I write, there are noises, strange mechanical noises. Through a gap I spy men in orange & yellow uniforms coming in & out of view. They're digging in, fortifying. I fear my time is near, the end approaches.

I leave these records in hope that others will never experience the horror, the travails, indeed, the terrible costs, of their free NBN fibre to the premises upgrade.
