On the bench today is the ringing and tones relayset from my Ericsson 50 line #telephoneExchange
It was Installed at Lots Rd Power Station, London in 1965, but I’ve had it since 2019
I haven’t exercised it since 2024, so there are plenty of faults to find!
Starting with this relay set. I’ve got very weak busy tone, and no ringing current, so it doesn’t ring any phones.
It’s almost certainly dirty or poorly adjusted contacts, so a bit of cleaning and some spring bending should get it done!
She normally ignores me when I’m in the #telephoneExchange shed, but today I have some company while I tinker

I've just placed the first calls through my #strowger #TelephoneExchange collection since #EMFCamp 2024!!
It took 2+ years to get them wired back in after I rearranged the shed to take one of them to emf
All 4 of the #ElectroMechanical exchanges return dialtone when prodded from DECT, and the DTMF to pulse converters still work!
There are a lot of faults for me to fix before I can even contemplate letting anyone else dial in - but OMG IT'S ALIVE!

This large "house" in #Stowmarket #Suffolk #England might look a bit unusual - round the corner you can see why - it is the local #TelephoneExchange ! (it is apparently going to be kept after analogue circuit switch off, as its used as a handover point for #fibre circuits)

@ety my shenanigans are mostly on much older kit than your average home lab phone setup (#electromechanical #strowger!)
My preference for phone kit is “massive, heavy, and maintained with a spanner” 😂

Is anyone able to lay their hands on a firmware image for a Samsung Ubigate IBG1004?
It’s an #isdn to #sip #telephone gateway, and the one I’ve got seems to be corrupt and won’t decompress.
My usual haunts for firmware images are coming up blank.
The filename will be something like `iBG1004_Advanced_1.6.1.9.Z` - but I'm really not too fussy about the version number!
Please boost if you think you have followers that can help!

The “MR” designation denotes some kind of diode (it stands for Metal Rectifier, a notation hangover from before silicon/germanium diodes) and they’re obviously arranged as full bridge rectifiers
They’re in a PSU made for the British Post Office in 1972
The brown stripe seems to denote the + end, but what does the other stripe mean?

Welcome to the #TelephoneExchange shed my new beepyboopy friend!
This is a “GPO Modem 2B” - a #dialup #modem… phone line in, RS232 out at a whopping 300bps!
It’s all discrete components (no ICs here!) and beautifully built with all the diodes/resistors mounted on little plastic carriers.
The modulator, demodulator etc are on separate, pull-out cards
It’s a gorgeous chunk of engineering, that I’ll be carefully powering up over the next few weeks!
