Why people keep promoting this moon landing conspiracy is totally beyond me. The only thing that’s fake is Kim Kardashian’s backside.

  5. Neil Armstrong becomes first man to walk on the Moon at 02:56 UTC (10:56PM EDT) July 21, 1969.

I was at Camp Durant the week of Apollo 11 in 1969. The Boy Scout Camp had no TVs or radios. I had decided to smuggle my 13" Motorola Cadet B&W to camp that year.

The camp infirmary was manned by medics from Ft. Bragg. They were absolutely willing to host my TV. I think Taps blew at 10:00 but by the time the LM was decompressed and the hatch was about to open you couldn't fit one more boy in the room.

Imagine a 13" B&W TV sitting on a milk crate on the floor and it providing the only source of light in the room. The monochrome glow illuminating every face as we witnessed a human step on the lunar soil and make that historic quote from the small 2 inch speaker. The image transmitted that evening was a negative of what we see now. I recall the network voice explaining that the feed from NASA was inverted. It mattered not to these viewers. It did not fail to make an impression.

We sat there for the 2 and a half hours of External Vehicle Activity by two earthlings on the surface of the Moon. Simply an overwhelming experience.

As we walked back to our campsite with the trail made visible by the light of the Moon above. We talked about the future. The future of humanity and our nations role in the world.

  8. Here are some fun pics - for my 40th birthday in 2021 we escaped to Glasgow for a long weekend (in between lockdowns). My wife had booked a hotel in the city centre as a surprise. When we arrived we found several streets shut down, and entirely redressed as 1969 Manhattan for the filming of the latest Indiana Jones movie 🍿

I wonder if @thisismyglasgow might recognise a few buildings 🤔

  9. An Audience With Neil Armstrong

There is a four-part interview series with Neil Armstrong from evoTV’s series, The Bottom Line. Armstrong did not give many interviews, and the show’s producers say this was the first on-camera interview Armstrong had done since 2005.

This is a very special interview series. It includes Armstrong describing, for the first time, the lunar descent side-by-side with Google Moon imagery. He also gives his thoughts on leadership and taking risks to innovate for the future, and speaks candidly on his early life The series also includes previously unseen footage of the lunar descent.

  10. One small step for [a] man. One giant leap for mankind.

I was home sitting at my desk when I first noticed the news of Mr. Armstrong’s passing. It seemed to me, that I had just experienced one of those defining moments; My parents’ generation has the infamous, “where were you when Kennedy was shot?”, or apropos here, “where were you when they landed on the moon?” At a deep level, I suddenly felt I would always know exactly where I was when I found out that Mr. Armstrong had died.

In the statement released by the family of Neil Armstrong following his death, they said, “For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the Moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”
