for replacement by bright agricultural lands and contributing to the desiccation of the Aral Sea which has shrunk to less than 10% of its 1960s size."

“Some of that change can even be seen in the images themselves, even though the Earth is shrouded in cloud. "Although they're of different parts of the Earth, the one thing that does show up in both images, although you're looking at different parts of it, is Antarctica and the #SouthernOcean," says #BenjaminWallis, a glaciologist at the University of Leeds in the UK. "The #Antarctic Peninsula is one of the most rapidly warming parts of the #Earth and 28,000km of ice shelf have collapsed in between the original image and the latest image."

Apollo 8 used a #Hasselblad camera for the famous #Earthrise photo in 1968. Not too shabby.

Anyway, the photo above is not representative of the camera technology as such, but of the poor video transmissions available then.

Haha – I suppose I could update it now with the new Artemis version.

We have had this PoV for 60 years.

    We've seen #Earthrise

    We've seen #PaleBlueDot

We know we live on an impossibly beautiful planet, in just the right orbit around just the right sun so that conditions will be just right for intelligent life to evolve.

We know this because I am imagining these words in my head, typing them, and you – hundreds or thousands of kilometres away – are reading them.
    After only a few seconds.

    We know all of this.

Yet we are still a colossal fuckup.
