Probably the best tomato soup I've made yet: roasted all those goodies on a sheet pan for about 35 minutes on 400 (see AltText), dropped them in a soup pot with a 28 oz can of peeled Italian tomatoes, 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, and a cup of water. Simmered for about 45 minutes, cooled, and then pureed into roasted tomato heaven in a bowl.

I was going to make savory waffles for dinner, but somehow things took a turn and we ended up with bacon-cheddar pancakes on a bed of mixed, sautéed greens with lemon zest, kalamata olives and feta cheese. The batter seemed too thick for waffles which is likely because I failed to follow the recipe directions.

  19. Slow-roasted chicken that can be done in the oven or a slow-cooker. I'll often put this together before heading out to work, and the house smells heavenly when I walk in the door: 6 boneless/skinless chicken thighs, a couple Tbsp each Dijon and mustard grains, 2 Tbsp dark honey, 1 tsp each coriander, paprika, cumin, turmeric, S&P, baked on very low heat for several hours.

  27. Easy sheet pan asparagus: lay asparagus in a single row on parchment paper, cut the cherry tomatoes in half and drop them in the end zone. Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes, remove and add some mozzarella cheese, then pop back into the oven til the cheese is golden. Serve with basil chiffonade and kalamata olives.

Not too sweet and the pretty "jewels" around the edges are just like pairing earrings with a beautiful gown - the final flourish! Silver fluted plate is Annie Glass, Santa Cruz, CA.

  31. Crespelle in Brodo (Crêpes in Broth) is another holiday tradition around here. The broth is made from a slow-cooked organic chicken, then boned. Homemade crepes are filled and rolled with grated Parmigiano Reggiano (I also add some shredded chicken) and served in a bowl of piping hot broth.
