  1. A TON of lessons in this:

    1. Fermentation REALLY important in getting the skin off, this has not been well documented, at least for home processing. So far, Lalvin D47 has been the best yeast, but I am sure there are others better suited for this. (Ale yeast... not great). I only figured this out because of wine and beer brewing.

    2. RINSE, RINSE, RINSE, RINSE. Rinse all the sugars off. The sugars cause burning.

    3. REMOVING THE CHAFF after fermentation and drying was a huge problem. Took me two years to figure this out. Putting it in a bag and whacking the back against cement, hitting it with a rolling pin, and then blowing it clear with a hairdryer set on "air only" with no heat did the trick. There are probably better ways to do this (someone suggested a blender on low, which I have not tried). This step is not documented anywhere, or at least, it was very, very, very, very unclear to me.

Those were the biggest discoveries. (also figured out how to make that air roaster along the way, last time I tried a cast iron pan, and that caused much burning and burnt tasting coffee... not great). This is good coffee now!

  2. Lots of chaff still, compared with commercial beans. Coffee not roasting as evenly. #coffee #homegrown

  3. 🥦white Widow Auto🥦
    From Linda-Seeds.

I think, it doesn't look too bad, especially because I almost killed it. Try stupid things, win stupid prices. 🤷‍♂️
It recovered, looks like my usual size/amount.
Window sill grow, this one didn't get any extra light, but I placed it directly at the window.
After my experiment it was so small and slow, I planted a rescue seed and killed that one too. 🫣 My nickname should be Round-Up 😆 to my defence, it was almost one and a half years in the fridge and it was super hot when I started it.
Anyway, maybe two weeks for this one and I'm satisfied so far.
    All good ✌️

  8. Grampians Olive Co: Olive oil, liquid gold

Olive oil has long been a culinary staple, thanks in large part to its beautiful colour and light, subtle flavour. Baking Business caught up with Greg Mathews from Grampians Olive Co to hear about what it takes to make a bottle of the liquid gold. Grampians Olive Co’s grove wa…

  10. Die Möhren sind dieses Jahr auch enttäuschend. Das lohnt sich kaum zum schälen. Drückt den Tomaten die Daumen, dass sie es schaffen noch reif zu werden. #garten #gardening #homegrown #balconygardening

  11. Started growing my own strawberries this year (bought six plants in early June), and I'm so pleased with the result so far.

Two days ago, I sliced a handful of berries (half of them pictured) and ate with chocolate sauce and milk.

Today I picked two particularly big ones, and one of them had ripened to a point where it had an intense scent and flavor akin to candy.

  13. Just brought in the very first plum harvest of the month, and there is truly nothing quite like the satisfaction of eating something you grew with your own hands. All the patience and tending through the season pay off the moment you taste fruit fresh off the branch. I hope everyone gets to experience this kind of simple joy, and hopefully, you all enjoy plums just as much as I do 🍑🌱🌱

  15. Last year had success with a few bell pepper plants in a pot. This year, I ordered and planted a variety of sweet peppers, since we enjoyed them so much.
    Guess what?
They aren't all sweet! A few have been quite spicy! Even son who likes spicy stuff says these have a lot of heat.
Is this typical with pepper seed and plants? This is literally the entirety of my pepper growing experience.

#garten #gardening #homegrown #balconygardening

  17. This is a pic from a few years ago, Dec 2021. The banana is a Blue Javan, also known as an Ice Cream Banana.

I liked the detail you see for several stages of the blooming process.
