  8. Two days hiking, mountaineering and a little bit of climbing with my son.
We departed yesterday morning and started our little adventure at Bristen Kohlplatz. We hiked up to the Etzli hut SAC, which is currently closed for renovation.
After an hour break we climbed up the east ridge of Rossbodenstock and trained alpine climbing, rope handling a.s.o. The climb it self is nice and not too challenging. Ideal terrain for training. We were able to leave the climbing shoes in our backpack.
And the Best: Nobody else there thanks to the closed hut.
After that we picked up our luggage and finally found a nice spot for the night.
As both of us were quite exhausted this morning we opted for the shortest option and did some climbs at the climbing garden Spillauplatten before descending to the bus stop.
Currently we are sitting in the train back home, exhausted but happy.

  9. Crowds at Mont Blanc: will hiking soon require reservations?

The Tour du Mont-Blanc is one of Europe’s most popular long-distance hiking routes, a 170-kilometre circuit through France, Italy and Switzerland that some 80 000 people walk each year, creating mounting problems.

  10. I’ve been on #Strava for a long time now. Back in the beginning, half of my “feed” was friends of mine posting casual #ultramarathons, 100 km bike rides, and #mountaineering adventures. Nowdays, it’s the same friends posting casual ultramarathons and bike rides, but also complaining about how much their knees/backs/ankles/whatever hurt. As far as I can tell, they haven’t slowed down much, they just hurt more.

Cheers to you all, aging friends!

  12. Came across this wonderful image from Arctic photographer, Martin Hartley, which shows me skiing up from base camp on Klyutchevskoy Sopka. The mountain had started erupting before we arrived and the volcanic ash on the snow gave the terrain an almost lunar look.

  13. Six action-packed days in the mountains! Overcrowded mountain huts, little sleep, physical exertion at over 3000 metres — it's an incredible experience! Why? Because sunrises in the mountains are magical, I was able to climb a 4000-metre peak again, make new friends and push my own limits. I'm tired, but I would be ready to get going again right away!

    But it's raining today... 😉
