Came across this wonderful image from Arctic photographer, Martin Hartley, which shows me skiing up from base camp on Klyutchevskoy Sopka. The mountain had started erupting before we arrived and the volcanic ash on the snow gave the terrain an almost lunar look.

Starting in Rein in Taufers (1550m), we hiked 10km and 1900m gain up to the Hochgall (3436m): it was demanding, long, and sometimes very steep and exposed… therefore absolutely amazing! 🤠
