  1. Phyllis Munday: Conqueror of the Rockies

Mountaineer and naturalist Phyllis Munday was a true trailblazer. In 1924, she and Annette Buck were the first women to summit Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. A skilled cartographer, she also mapped over 180 square kilometres of BC's wilderness, a significant contribution to Canadian geography. 🇨🇦

  3. Two days hiking, mountaineering and a little bit of climbing with my son.
We departed yesterday morning and started our little adventure at Bristen Kohlplatz. We hiked up to the Etzli hut SAC, which is currently closed for renovation.
After an hour break we climbed up the east ridge of Rossbodenstock and trained alpine climbing, rope handling a.s.o. The climb it self is nice and not too challenging. Ideal terrain for training. We were able to leave the climbing shoes in our backpack.
And the Best: Nobody else there thanks to the closed hut.
After that we picked up our luggage and finally found a nice spot for the night.
As both of us were quite exhausted this morning we opted for the shortest option and did some climbs at the climbing garden Spillauplatten before descending to the bus stop.
Currently we are sitting in the train back home, exhausted but happy.

  5. The legendary mountaineer Nirmal Purja is among 10 climbers killed in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the global mountaineering community.

Purja rose to fame through the documentary 14 Peaks featuring his record-breaking climb of the world’s 14 highest mountains.

  7. The Wikipedia entry for #MountKailash has a section with the title: #mountaineering.

In that section, there is an entry: "#ReinholdMessner was given the opportunity by the Chinese government to #climb in the mid-1980s. But he declined, saying 'If we conquer this mountain, then we conquer something in people's souls.'"

    I love that.

I don't believe the peak has ever been climbed, and given its holy status (Buddhists consider Mt. Kailash to be the center of the earth) that's as it should be.
