@tlohde I learned to lead climb in Scotland, in the early 2000s - there were no bolts around so I learned placing gear 😆.
Mentored by a guy in his mid 70s at the time (vale! ).
And yes, climbing rocks can be a long, long term thing....

On thursday, I went to climb the " #Supercrack of #heidelberg " (by Wolfgang Güllich) with a friend. The #rock, even though similar sandstone according to my limited geology, was so different than in Palatinate, more dense, smooth and tough.
The crack is a handcrack with little crimps or holes, and almost no feet. I ... died. A lot. 3 moves at maximum, then i had to fall and rest. In the end, to retrieve a overcammed friend, I had to prusik 2-3 meters. Well, I learn 😅

There are some people visible on the summit if you look carefully which gives you the sense of scale. That’s a big rock!

Take a class, buy (or, better, build) a #firstaid kit, and carry it. Weight is a number; don't let being #ultralight stop you from carrying the right stuff for each trip. The farther out you go, the more you should take.
