  2. Hey #climbing bubble 👋,

    Which size of Ocún's Ozone HV corresponds to La Sportiva's Skwama Women's in EU 40 / UK 6,5 / US 7,5 ? 🤔

sizesquirrel.com does not have any data on this.

  3. Experience: I fell 12 metres while bouldering and smashed my pelvis into pieces
    By Emily Brough

It was clear it was broken. I could feel the bones grinding together as the paramedics strapped me to a gurney

  4. My #rockclimbing days are in the past, but how can I not get excited about huge expanses of vertical #alpine granite like this?

There are some people visible on the summit if you look carefully which gives you the sense of scale. That’s a big rock!

  6. Reminder; if you are into the spending time in the #outdoors (#hiking, #backpacking, #trailrunning, #camping, #kayaking, #rockclimbing, you name it), it's even more important for you to have medical training and carry the right equipment than it is for the average person. Take a class, buy (or, better, build) a #firstaid kit, and carry it. Weight is a number; don't let being #ultralight stop you from carrying the right stuff for each trip. The farther out you go, the more you should take.

  7. "Halfway up The Nose of El Capitan is one of the wildest pendulums in existence"--it's called the King Swing! I shot this way back in 2015 with my Sony a6000 (a CMOS sensor camera) and a 70-200mm lens for a 35mm equivalent of 300mm. Still, it's cropped waaay in. The climber's goal is seen in the fourth frame, grabbing onto a crack in the rock face so they may continue their climb up The Nose and to the top.

  8. How far away is the first 9b boulder?

In 2016, Nalle established the world's first 9a/ V17. Now, 10 years later, Elias has proposed the first 9a+/ V18.

If future repeat ascents confirm the grade, the historical trend of the world's hardest boulder problems suggests the first 9b could arrive in roughly 12–15 years.

Do you think we'll see a 9b boulder before 2040?

  9. Preliminary report on the St Savvas (Kalymnos) anchor, which failed with lethal consequences on 27th March 2026

Suprise: it's not sulphide stress cracking mediated by sulphate reducing bacteria!

Petzl Gougon 10 mm from 2000-2005 should be treated as high risk until we have better data. It might be a bad batch. They might have been used in other crags.

  10. Today, I was with my trad-leader friend at the Frohndellpfeiler in Palatinate. The crack was a "6", and it was amazing to see my friend lead this so effortlessly and securely. The route was a mix between actual hand- and fist-jamming crack-climbing and even a short shoulder crack portion, finished up by some slopey hell. I was able to top it! With only ~4 falls into the rope (3 times at the place of the video). I´m so DAMN proud!

  11. Mountains are entities

Mountains are entities; you get to climb them, but you can’t conquer them. Put your arrogance aside. You can never beat a mountain into submission. If I summit it’s because I was in the right place at the right time.

  12. Go simply

Training prepares your body and, most important, your mind for ascent through consistent, hard, disciplined practice.

Go simply, train smart, climb well.

  13. Programming is terrible, part 2

Three years ago I posted, Programming is terrible. These days? …yeah, exactly the same, but now I find I’m staring suspiciously at, basically, everything thinking: I’m about to do something which, as soon as I completely forget the details, (in the too-near future,) I’m going to be left with something that irritates me. A mess of my own making, as it were.

I’ve been on a bender for decades—which clearly means I’ve not been succeeding, right? I’ve been on a bender to simplify things as much as I can. A lot of progress can be made in that direction simply by removing goals: If I can delete the goal of, “make this thing be successful,” then that might make it possible to simply enjoy the thing. Normal people would just call that “a hobby” and wouldn’t need a paragraph to unpack the idea.

Rock climbing falls into this “hobby” category. I’m a poor, (as in skill,) climber, but since I don’t have any goals related to climbing, it’s just, “any day at the crag.” (And the, “…is better than any other day,” is left unsaid.) That’s literally my mantra. (Somebody should find me a sticker that says that for the top of my climbing helmet.) Some days I climb a bunch of stuff. Some days I fall off a bunch of stuff. Some days it’s glorious weather. Some days it’s tics, snakes and poison ivy. I’ve climbed a bunch of stuff already. There’s a bunch more stuff to climb.

  14. Did you say ‘climbing challenge’?!

Blane setup several climbing challenges in our last session. This was the easiest, but so fun! Was hangin as the coppers rolled by… “and you sir! how old are you?! You should know better!”
