  1. New #review today: "#GaryHusband's work with #AllanHoldsworth and #JohnMcLaughlin alone gives him a high profile, and there are so many more artists he’s worked with. But he’s also been working as a leader of his own projects, and Postcards from the Past serves as an entry point to that work. But it doesn’t just feature tracks from his releases — it contains a wealth of material that’s never been available before." #ExposeOnline #jazz #JazzRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

  2. Listen to Miles Davis' "Right Off," recorded in 1970, released in 1971 as part of "A Tribute to Jack Johnson." Got Billy Cobham hittin' the 2 and 4 accents for that rock beat now. Likely should be played loud.

  3. The logical next music to visit with, after "Filles de Kilimanjaro," is "In a Silent Way" (1969). Listen to "It's About that Time." Miles hasn't hooked up a wa-wa pedal yet, but Wayne has switched to soprano, and McLaughlin has arrived. The sound is evolving quickly.

  4. Konec i začátek: Apocalypse a vize Johna McLaughlina

  5. New #review today: "The previous releases we’ve reviewed from drummer #PhilHaynes have not covered the breadth of his career, which has spanned a variety of different streams of #jazz. On Return to Electric, he pays homage to the heady days of the late 60s and early 70s when jazz musicians started using electric instruments. His companions on this journey are bassist #DrewGress and guitarist #SteveSalerno." #ExposeOnline #ChickCorea #WayneShorter #JohnMcLaughlin expose.org/index.php/articles/

  6. White label promo of the first Japanese pressing of one of my favorite albums. Desert island pick for sure.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire

    (1973 – Japan, Promo, CBS/Sony – SOPL-175)

  7. Miles Davis - Jack Johnson

I've read multiple conflicting accounts of how this album came together. Despite it being two tracks (Side A - Right Off; Side B - Yesternow), it was edited together by Teo Macero from a bunch of separate sessions.

But whatever the truth is, the band absolutely cooks. Probably my favorite "Electric Miles" album.

    Release: Late 1980s reissue

  10. The Tony Williams Lifetime - Emergency!

Major gear shift to this fusion milestone, featuring Williams (on drums, of course), John McLaughlin (guitar), and Larry Young (organ).

Heavily on the “rock" and/or free side of fusion, lots of tempo changes, lots of distortion on the guitar, as well as mic-saturating organ.

  12. James Taylor, One Man Dog, 1972 on Warner Bros.

This was Taylor’s fourth studio album, with “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight.” 18 tracks means lots of short bits / interludes, some of which can feel a bit unfinished but overall I like the effect.

Performers include Carly Simon and Carole King on backing vocals, Danny Kortchmar, Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, and John McLaughlin (of Mahavishnu Orchestra) on “Someone.”
