Bonnie Raitt, Nick of Time, 1989 on Capitol
Although this was Bonnie Raitt's big commercial breakthrough—and maybe where I first heard her?—it was actually her tenth studio album. (Later I'd find her back catalogue which has much to recommend in it). It was also her first on Capitol, having been dropped by Warner Bros. It was produced by Don Was (future Blue Note president), with whom she'd collaborated on Stay Awake. Includes John Hiatt's "Thing Called Love" as well as the title track Raitt wrote. "Cry On My Shoulder" has David […]https://goatless.org/2026/08/09/bonnie-raitt-nick-of-time-1989-on-capitol

Herbie Hancock, My Point of View, 1963 on Blue Note
Hancock's sophomore album as a leader, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Englewood Cliffs NJ. Hancock joined by Donald Byrd (trumpet), Gracham Moncur III (trombone), Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Grant Green (guitar), Chuck Isreals (bass), and Anthony Williams (drums). Herbie Hancock is a master, and it is wonderful to find the early Blue Note albums - I now have the first five in good vinyl editions. All the tracks on this one are Hancock originals - love "Blind Man, Blind Man" which recalls & […]https://goatless.org/2026/05/28/herbie-hancock-my-point-of-view-1963-on-blue-note

"Rockit" is a composition recorded by American jazz pianist #HerbieHancock #and produced by #BillLaswell and #MichaelBeinhorn. Hancock released it as a #single from his twenty-ninth album, #FutureShock (1983). The selection was composed by Hancock, Laswell, and Beinhorn. The track was driven by its deejay #scratch style, performed primarily by #DXT, and its music video created by #GodleyAndCreme, featuring the robotic art of #JimWhiting.

Morgan accompanied by Herbie Hancock, Jackie McLean, Billy Higgins, Hank Mobley and Larry Ridley. Very enjoyable album.

Lee Morgan - Cornbread
Given this was recorded in '65, it starts off sounding more "late 60s" to me, for some reason.
Morgan, here, is joined by Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Herbie Hancock (piano), Jackie McLean (alto sax), Larry Ridley (bass), and Billy Higgins (drums). The set is four Morgan tunes and one standard (Ill Wind). Ceora is, indeed, a standout.
