Saw Dave Holland & Lionel Loueke last night at a super intimate venue in Santa Cruz. Man, what a show! It was the first of a west coast mini tour they’re doing, so check your listings if you’re in SF, San Diego, or Seattle this week.
My 19yo son, who has a wonderfully wide range of musical tastes was blown away. So happy that I was asked to share the experience with him.
Holland is, of course, absolute jazz royalty to me, and really played like it. Sharp and inventive. Loueke was stunning! I love the record they released last year, but these songs exploded live. They extended their scheduled set time by almost an hour, finding incredible spaces in their jams. Just a spectacular evening altogether.
