  1. Miles Davis - Jack Johnson

I've read multiple conflicting accounts of how this album came together. Despite it being two tracks (Side A - Right Off; Side B - Yesternow), it was edited together by Teo Macero from a bunch of separate sessions.

But whatever the truth is, the band absolutely cooks. Probably my favorite "Electric Miles" album.

  6. Whut. This is amazing. As recommended by Zola Jesus, listening in particular for the incredible vocals by Linda Sharrock.

  7. #NowPlaying ❝This is going on the radio, that’s how good it is, might as well strike a blow for freedom or whatever. This is dedicated to the South African government, the Israeli government, and those brothers that are gonna get your ass on the way home.❞ — #SonnySharrock youtube.com/watch?v=u4AwHYeEEA

  8. ❝We never cared about, you know, developing the standard classical European Western techniques or whatever, and I developed my own techniques, Linda developed her own techniques, and I think that's what folk music is about, you know. And jazz: I have a strong feeling that jazz is a folk music.❞ — #SonnySharrock web.archive.org/web/2014090121

  9. New #review today: "#LocationLocationLocation is a jazzy guitar trio that, for me, hits a sweet spot balancing composition and improvisation on their debut, Damaged Goods. While #AnthonyPirog’s guitar is far more mangled, both electronically and harmonically, than is common in jazz, the group’s music is clearly in the vein previously mined by groups led by #RaoulBjörkenheim, #TerjeRypdal, #SonnySharrock, #NelsCline, and others." #ExposeOnline #jazz #AvantJazz #JazzRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

  13. Last Exit's Iron Path was the CD that convinced me to finally buy a CD player in 1988. (Though ultimately "Noise of Trouble: Live in Tokyo" is my fave of their recordings.)

  14. #NowPlaying Byard Lancaster - It's Not Up To Us (Superior Viaduct, 2023).

I've never seen the original released in 1968 on the Vortex label, an Atlantic subsidiary. So I picked up the Superior Viaduct recent reissue.

    With Sonny Sharrock on guitar.

  15. #NowPlaying Bill Laswell just dropped a 24-bit version of #LastExit’s only studio album.

    In Memory:
    #PeterBrötzmann (March 6, 1941 – June 22, 2023)
    #SonnySharrock (August 27, 1940 – May 26, 1994)

Another great Vortex reissue from Superior Viaduct. "Black Woman" was produced by Herbie Mann, with whom Sharrock recorded "Memphis Underground" in the same year.

  17. Byard Lancaster - "It's Not Up To Us" (1968)

Much needed reissue of Byard Lancaster's 1968 debut lp. Prominently features the great Sonny Sharrock on guitar. Check out BL's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", and then stay tuned for Sharrock's performance on "Satan". A truly terrific record.
