  1. Recorded (around this time) and released 40 years ago, "New York Performances" may be the only Borbetomagus LP that hasn't been reissued on CD? I remember reading that it's probably because it isn't that good. But it's better than I remember, especially the A side. Did I hear some Albert Ayler? The B side is rather badly recorded (or rather, not bad in a good way). And it has some nice photos of the band!

  7. New #review today: "The band’s name translates roughly to “From Evil,” and while they’ve been around since at least 2020, when they released a six-song 12-inch 45RPM, Smilet er en flyktig tilstand (The Smile Is a Fleeting State) is the group’s first full length LP. This is the essence of what #FreeJazz meets electronics meets full-on chaos at its finest sounds like." #ExposeOnline #FraDetOnde #PsychedelicMusic #ElParaisoRecords expose.org/index.php/articles/

  10. No landing gear tonight (THU 8/6 at 8pm) we'll build the plane in flight then hit the deck in a full belly crashlanding. Ear plugs may not be enough, you may want to tape your nipples as well because this massive airship is definitely...

    Leaking
Brian Pedersen on bari sax, Fred Lonberg-Holm on cello, and Jay Korber on the rusty gates of hell. Whether it'll be light, oil, or cerebral spinal fluid that seeps before spurting full force we can't know in advance. Lonberg-Holm being a disciple of both Feldman and Braxton and known collaborator of Zeek Sheck as well as Brotzman, and with Pedersen an unsacred curate in bands like 4ft Owl not to mention Key West and Fistortion alongside Jay Korber who blurs the very line between man and animal (the muppet), whatever does spill forth it's sure to get all over everything and definitley won't come out in any kind of wash.

  11. I'm already a firm believer but it's always miraculous to perceive evidence of manifold time, unfreezable reality too fleeting to hold. Come tuck your head in the space between electrons, yes it's real! 8pm Thurs 8/6 at the Peacock Lounge, 552 Haight, all-ages notaflof

    Evidence Trio
Mbira, banana harmonica, flute and alto maestera Kersti Abrams unites with bassist Eli Pontecorvo and thereminist Andrew Joron to establish the avant-space improv Evidence Trio. Just like measured variances of electron swarms can unveil mysteries of solid matter, you can witness the wailing emanation of the void, unfurling in the monochord of Joron's theremin while Pontecorvo's bass prods indolent silence from below and Abrams' melodics depart into upper orbits splintering like fractions of light as proof of a non-hierarchical universe where answers precede questions unravelling endlessly to spawn what is impossible, yet immediate, and evident.

  12. @thetonearm

Bill Dixon recounted a similar strategy in the film Imagine The Sound. He, Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman and others into #FreeJazz were playing gigs in abandoned warehouses and cafés. Bill created a poster that merely implied these were already acclaimed famous artists, and at the bottom, a single line of praise from a Downbeat article, a rarity indeed at the time, but also a stamp of street cred. The poster was sent to all the jazz 'zines and radio hosts.

They didn't rival the Beatles 🤣 but suddenly they were in demand and touring, and soon to be headliners.

Kayla Milmine (Saxophones soprano et sopranino, ainsi qu’une collection variée de curiosités musicales / Soprano & sopranino sax and a varied trove of sound-making curiosities)
Jonathan Kay (Saxophone soprano et ténor, esraj, shakuhachi, cor tibétain et tout un arsenal d'objets sonores / Soprano & tenor sax, esraj, shakuhachi, Tibetan horn, and an arsenal of sonic artifacts)

    https://k2improv.bandcamp.com/

    /
K2 is an improvising duo by Kayla Milmine (soprano sax) and Jonathan Kay (soprano & tenor sax, esraj, shakuhachi, Tibetan horn). Their union delves into the raw, transformative powers of music, conjuring sound-rituals as sites fueled by indeterminacy, where boundaries are not just crossed but obliterated through transcultural improvisation and an unapologetically nomadic approach to sound.
