Probenwochenende mit meiner Bigband verbracht. Sie haben viel geprobt und alles gegeben. Die Nacht im Jugendherbergsbett war kurz und nicht ganz so erholsam wie erhofft. Aber es hat riesigen Spaß gemacht und sich auch musikalisch absolut gelohnt.
Jetzt merke ich aber, wie anstrengend über 10 Stunden reine Probenzeit für meinen Kopf war.

I talked him into throwing on some Glenn Miller and more precisely this tune. He hadn’t heard of Glenn Miller before our conversation; I shared with him how Maj. Miller died in a plane crash in December of 1944. Next thing I know, the office was jammin Glenn. I think I did OK.

Classic west coast jazz from Contemporary Records - sometimes just gets call Art Pepper + Eleven, sometimes Modern Jazz Classics. Not sure if 12 people counts as a big band - Wikipedia says "a small big band." Marty Paich did the arranging. Songs composed by Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, and Sonny Rollins among others. A must have for people (like me) who are fans of the west coast "cool jazz" and the late big band era. Wir spielen übrigens mit der #Bigband am Sonntag, den 17.9.2023 in #Neustadt an der #Weinstraße bei der Heim'schen Privatsektkellerei im Garten.
Von 11:00 bis 14:00 unter dem Motto Jazzpicknick. Also Brotzeit oder was auch immer einpacken und mitbringen. Getränke gibt es von der #Sektkellerei (zu meinem Leidwesen kein Bier).
Wird ein eingängiges Programm mit vielen Count-Basie-Klassikern. Leider ohne Gesang.
