  1. RIP #michaeltilsonthomas Almost no one mentions his and maestro #johnmclaughlin #michaelgibbs and #georgemartin (see picture) collaboration on Apocalypse. But when talking about "anglosaxon symphonic" music in the 20th century, #mahavishnu remains important I think, just as much as all the cage and feldman and all the stravinsky work. That totally unironic, 70s megalomaniac character, its almost like a Howard Hughes style mad scientist/entrepreneur project goes Symphony.

  3. New #review today: "#GaryHusband's work with #AllanHoldsworth and #JohnMcLaughlin alone gives him a high profile, and there are so many more artists he’s worked with. But he’s also been working as a leader of his own projects, and Postcards from the Past serves as an entry point to that work. But it doesn’t just feature tracks from his releases — it contains a wealth of material that’s never been available before." #ExposeOnline #jazz #JazzRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

  10. Listen to Miles Davis' "Right Off," recorded in 1970, released in 1971 as part of "A Tribute to Jack Johnson." Got Billy Cobham hittin' the 2 and 4 accents for that rock beat now. Likely should be played loud.

  15. The logical next music to visit with, after "Filles de Kilimanjaro," is "In a Silent Way" (1969). Listen to "It's About that Time." Miles hasn't hooked up a wa-wa pedal yet, but Wayne has switched to soprano, and McLaughlin has arrived. The sound is evolving quickly.

  22. Konec i začátek: Apocalypse a vize Johna McLaughlina

  27. Miles Davis-Evil - Live

It was Fathers' Day yesterday in Australia. I try my best to be a conscientious objector, (I mean, the kids didn't ask for me to impregnate their mother, thus forcing them into existence, and so really have no need to thank me for doing my basic duty to them in the intervening years) but my bastard children won't have it. In an attempt to limit the proceedings, I suggested that - if they must - they just fill a Live-Evil shaped gap in my record collection and be done with it. It was a partial success, in that I do now own a Record Store Day reissue of the album on teal-splatter vinyl. What a time to be alive, eh?

I haven't heard Live-Evil before and it's quite a substantial work, so these are just my initial thoughts:
    - Like I say, there's a lot of it. It's going to take time to digest.
    - This is firmly in the On The Corner ballpark. Davis is wah-wahing away like a man possessed.
    - John McLaughlin's guitar sound, let alone his playing, took my breath away.

Anyway, I might add further comments in future as I get into this more.

  28. Soooo. Some Moons ago I had this ear for a moment. Not sure if Larry had set the stage but for whatever reason there was a moment. It was pre #COVID but there had been this close interval of irreparable losses in muso land and we were reeling. I’d become furious at the term “rest in peace” as ignorance of the continuum…like we were insulting the **Very Large Spirits* of our fellows who had just left the building. That moment was with #JohnMclaughlin and I’d probably just said the dumbest thing-
