  1. I haven't gone one night since #HurricaneMilton without waking up with cold sweats - panic stricken - from a nightmare having to do with that #hurricane!

This is not normal for me. I don't obsess over earthquakes, fires, or hurricanes normally. Hey! I lived in California. Fires and earthquakes were monthly events. I even made it through #HurricaneIan without this kind of problem! 😳

  2. This video should be broadcast on all SW Florida TV stations every hour to convince those too stubborn to leave.

There were people in the house that was swept away (you can see someone open the door in the beginning).

  3. U.S. Army gets close-up view of disappearing sand on Key Biscayne :

Williamson said having the senior managers witness the vulnerability of the beach in real-time may work to the island’s advantage as it seeks inclusion in the Federal Shore Protection program.

  4. A year after #HurricaneIan, my response is the same: it wasn't me. I didn't do it. I'd say it wasn't my fault - but that's an earthquake joke. #weather #humor
It was on the south edge of forecast. The center went over NASA KSC, after doubts about rolling Artemis1 SLS back to VAB. twitter.com/ikluft/status/1574

  5. Breathing a personal sigh of relief. (Our boat was smashed by last year.)

Hoping folks in the path are prepared.

Also hoping state-level idiots don’t impede disaster relief from FEMA. (It’s a Death-Santis Dick Move that the fascist press would applaud with careful both-sidesing to balance actual suffering against political ideological idiocy.)

  6. #Idalia jumped up to a category 4 while I was asleep, though we only got the edge of it here. It was only projected to teach category 3 when I went to sleep. Throughout the day yesterday, Idalia continued to shift further north and west than had been expected the day before.

Last night was nothing nearly as scary as it was when #HurricaneIan hit last year, even though that was down to a category 1 when it reached us.

  7. "What to Do" by @XKCD comic - Last year when anyone pointed out my name was on #HurricaneIan, I went along with it: "I'd say it's not my fault but that's an earthquake joke." Here XKCD mixes up mishaps to a whole new level. xkcd.com/2813/ #RunAway #VamosPeligro

  8. "The last few months of this has been exhausting for #Florida residents. But it’s been a different kind of draining for #HurricaneIan survivors like Goulet, who were already just getting by before the storm, and then had their homes, possessions, routines, jobs, neighborhoods and social networks ripped from them."

  9. Hurricane season in Key Biscayne: “We can’t wait for the county” :

Williamson said he will move officials and emergency personnel off the island with a strong hurricane approaching – meaning those residents who stay will be on their own. “If you are still alive afterwards, we will come back for you,” he said.

  10. Driving around down here and I'm surprised by the number of homes and businesses still damaged by #HurricaneIan. My dad says some people aren't scheduled to get their roofs repaired until October. About 1/4 of the homes in his neighborhood still have missing lanais.

  11. Myakka Re-visit # 2:
    Alligators in Nesting Area

Here is a post-Hurricane Ian spot populated by some of the many 'gators of Myakka River & lakes.

The bright green grass with which they are nose-to-nose, had been under water. The dark holes (lower right) are now visible vestiges of their usually hidden nesting mounds

    Ch-ch-ch-changes.

    But nature revives, in time.

  12. Remember that the only #insurers left in #Florida are smaller ones:

" For the better part of two decades, the nation’s major insurers have wanted as little to do with Florida as possible, as least when it comes to insuring homes.

That has left the market in the hands of small, in-state insurers with limited resources."

You know who will be left holding the tab: the tax payer. Wonder how that will play out for #DeSantis.

  13. #ClimateAction is not expensive: doing nothing is expensive.

Ordinary people bear the cost as #Insurance companies are not paying out:

"In one claim reviewed by The Post, a nearly $500,000 damage estimate on a house with a mostly tarped roof was reduced to about $13,000. In another, the desk adjusters blamed roof storm damage on past wear and tear, meaning it would not be covered."

  14. After #HurricaneIan, insurers apparently have dramatically slashed the professional estimates of adjusters, aparently as a move to limit their payouts for damaged homes, per the Washington Post. #insurance #disasters #hurricanes wapo.st/3JxC2ZZ

  15. @Diamondjoy Lee County seems really far gone. Local anti-science leaders killed hundreds by rescinding the #HurricaneIan evacuation order and no one is being held accountable. If you can get away with that, nothing else will surprise me. Someone or some group has to start voicing who was responsible for that travesty and trace it back to being anti-science and anti-knowledge. It's all related, and it costs lives.

  16. @1finekitty This is the same county that rescinded their hurricane evacuation order for #HurricaneIan when they were still in the cone of uncertainty. More than 100 people in that county died. Leaders who don't trust the scientific process kill.

  18. I'm thrilled to have been a part of this panel discussion on #climatechange in the #TampaBay area. We discuss #publichealth #heat risks, #sealevelrise, and community responses.

As a fun fact, #HurricaneIan was bearing down on us while this was being filmed! I literally drove back to #Orlando that evening through the storm's outer bands.
