Summer is the perfect time to hit Myakka State Park early in the morning...I hope the boardwalk for bird watching is fixed since Milton destroyed it last year!

Went to the Myakka River State Park yesterday. It was super hot! Many of the inlets were dried up due to the drought.

Limpkin Couple

It was a bittersweet return to Myakka River State Park after its double-destruction, first the Weir, and then Hurricane Ian…

But it is spring, nature is eternal & resilient, and nesting season is here.

I saw none of the usual spoonbills & glossy ibises, and few herons, though gators were abundant, along with anhingas & limpkins.

Myakka Re-visit # 2:
Alligators in Nesting Area

Here is a post-Hurricane Ian spot populated by some of the many 'gators of Myakka River & lakes.

The bright green grass with which they are nose-to-nose, had been under water. The dark holes (lower right) are now visible vestiges of their usually hidden nesting mounds

Ch-ch-ch-changes.

But nature revives, in time.

After a day at Myakka River State Park & on our way to the front gate, the sun had just set & painted this glorious sunset sky. So of course, we had to stop & take a few pics to take home. Myakka is home to tons of wildlife & has nice camping facilities & offers many activities too. If in the area, it’s worth a stop.
