Adrienne Rich named heterosexuality as an institution — not a default — in 1980. Forty-six years before a pastor tried to call its opposite a pathogen. Freddie Mercury filled stadiums as a queer man who refused to be made smaller. We hold their names like tools.

"Ich würde niemals alleine auf Tour gehen oder mich von #Queen trennen. Ohne die anderen wäre ich nichts. Die Presse behauptet immer, ich wäre der Wilde und die anderen die Ruhigen, aber das stimmt nicht. Ich könnte euch Geschichten über Brian erzählen, die würdet ihr nicht glauben.“

The Works
Released February 28, 1984 .. they quasi "come-back" album. After the experimental, dance-heavy Hot Space (1982), the album marked a return to their classic hard rock sound with 1980s synthesizers and electronics. The name originated from a comment by Roger Taylor at the start of the sessions: "Let's give 'them'em the works!" #queen #theworks #80srock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #freddiemercury #brianmay #rogertaylor #johndeacon

To me, Cliff Richard and Freddie Mercury always seemed an unlikely pair of friends.
The thing I didn't know was that Richard was born in India and because of his accent and complexion he, strangely, faced anti-Indian racism when his family moved back to Britain.
Freddie Mercury's family was from India and he was educated there in a British type boarding school. When he fled to Britain with his family from Zanzibar he also had to deal with racism.
So Cliff and Freddie actually had a weirdly shared/similar background.
I think they only performed together once, singing It's In Everyone of Us as part of a charity performance of the musical Time back in 1988.
