UCLA vs. UW feat. Jordan Chiles
Last night our elementary school organized a group to see a UW gymnastics meet. I don’t think I’d ever been to one in person? The gymnasts were super impressive. As an added bonus Jordan Chiles was there competing for UCLA!
I’m used to watching the Olympics version, and there were a few things I noticed that were different. The first was that there were way fewer mistakes… not sure if that’s lower difficulty or the competition pressure or what. The second was how much fun the athletes were having, like dancing on the sideline with their teammates’ floor routines or cheering one another on right after completing an apparatus; the Olympics are so much more serious! The third was the wider range of ages and body types; the most elite level still seems to really select down to a certain younger more petite build. Another little thing is that I didn’t realize grad students competed!
There were a lot of giveaways and activities plus a DJ playing a lot of music throughout, not just for floor exercise. The pep band was there, and there were a ton of Huskie-themed activities.
