Giornata Nazionale del Panino con Carne di Manzo all’Italiana!🍔

Un morso tra storia e tradizione (che profuma di Chicago!)

Il Italian Beef Day si celebra nel 2026 il 23 maggio, come da tradizione il quarto sabato di maggio.
Protagonista assoluto? Il celebre panino nato a Chicago negli anni ’30, creato dagli immigrati italiani per sfamare tante persone con carne economica ma saporita.

Carne di manzo sottilissima, immersa in un brodo speziato, servita in un panino lungo e accompagnata da peperoni o giardiniera: semplice, ma con un’anima decisamente “wow”.

The (#chicken) #empanada was only three $, and I got the spicy sauce this time (yesterday was #GroundBeef & a green sauce) but the yellow #sauce wasn’t #spicy at all.

One of my discoveries was the 9th Ave Food Festival apron, only $5, silk screened in three colors.
While I wait for my fried Snickers (they’ll batter & fry a Twinkies cake instead if you want, five bucks), I snapped a pic of it w my draft lager ($7).

If you're thirsty at the #FoodFestival (or just in midtown), head to the #PandaExpress 46th/ 9th to get the *child size* soda. Drink to your belly's content, free refills, only a dollar.
BUT: Bring change or they'll keep two cents, it's $1.08 w/ tax & they won't stock pennies. I was shy a penny (I gave them $1.07) & the manager got all "I'll waive it this time but our policy is exact change..." & I said No it's not, you make me pay $1.10, not exact...

There was a good turn out, even though the weather wasn't great (most of it was inside anyway).

We bought some cucumber seedlings, some veggie pies, jams, a garlic mayo jar, and some polish sausages.

There was loads of choice of cheeses, but I already have enough for now, maybe next time....
