  1. Tonight I'm at Friday Night Market. I'll be selling my greeting cards and prints! Music, a Farmers Market, locally made food and craft artisans from all over the region!

Tomorrow I'll be at Block Party on F Street, which celebrates art and health. The block has a major regional art museum, a coop art gallery, two private studios, and a classic theatre for movies and music performance.

There'll be Plein Aire painters, fire dancers, an upbeat calypso band, an art and frame fire sale, awards for photography in the local coop, and overlapping Arts Alive! happening concurrently all over downtown! The museum will be free, the theatre is giving away free popcorn! There's a children's area as well as hard cider, and lots of local artists selling their artwork.

  2. Today is a gorgeous day here in Eureka, CA, with the temperature at 60° and the sun bright. I’ll be downtown at Friday Night market tonight from 5:30-8:30pm, with four new greeting cards!

They’re my new Cooper’s Hawk, a Pileated Woodpecker, a Mallard Duck, and a Red-Legged Frog.

If you’re in the northern California area, I hope to see you there!

  4. Street fair time!

A beautiful sunny and warm/breezy afternoon (after an earlier downpour) in New York, an annual event in the Upper West Side.

I was pleased to hear, after last year's dearth of tourists, a lot of French being spoken! So merci, France, for taking a chance on America once again! A lot of Asian food & crafts too. I do ❤️ NY.
And we love visitors from the (sane) world!

    These are from my phone/cam....

  5. Tonight is the first Friday Night Market of the summer. I’ll be doing twelve consecutive Friday nights vending at a local street fair here in Eureka, CA, selling my greeting cards and prints.

Last year was my first experience doing so at all. I’d never put art out there like I did that first time. And it was life-changing.

Tonight, I go to have fun and enjoy the music, food, crafts, and people I meet. Tonight is about joy, not sales.

Because in today’s world, artists have to link themselves to their art in a way that can’t be so easily obliterated into irrelevance like generative slop does. Slop depends on the commoditization of creativity, separating the artist out of the process entirely in favor of a finished product.

And Art can’t be that way anymore. We cannot be anonymous introverts working hard to share things simply to to be posted to an endless scroll of imagery for the entertainment of bored people looking for distraction in the moment.

Artists can’t hide anymore. To sell their art, they must make human connections. They must engage in their communities and find ways to say, “Yes, I actually made this. This is how and why.”

So tonight is going to be about positivity, home, creativity, and fun. And meeting people to enjoy them as much as I relish making art.

  6. They did an article on me as the featured artist for Friday Night Market in my local newspaper. Here’s a gift link:

    times-standard.com/2026/05/17/

It’s a nicely written piece, and it introduces me to the community in a way that is really authentic, and fits into the aesthetic of local-first.

Between this and the poster I made for the event, I’m pretty stoked today! I guess they’ll be selling it as a limited edition print at their info booth, which is honestly a great way for them to raise money—the Humboldt Made organization has been awesome to me, personally, so I’m happy to give back somehow.

  7. Street Fair! The Ninth Avenue International Food Festival, to be exact. NYC’s oldest *longest running* annual #StreetFair except for Covid.

  9. Today was the last outdoor event I’ll be doing for the year. After this, it’s all indoor events until the weather gets better next year.

And wow was this one tough.

I’m not sure I’ll be doing this on in the future. It was weird from the beginning with no online application process, checks-only for application fees, and a lack of communication of acceptance and logistics until literally days before the event…

One vendor left halfway through setting up once she learned there were only two portable toilets for the entire five-block event.

But the day *really* soured around noon when 30+mph wind gusts started knocking over vendor displays. Many left early.

And I didn’t make a single sale for the last 2.5 hours. I was fortunate—my tent weights are massive. But I still had to hold it down most of the afternoon. None of our stuff went flying across the street like other vendors had to deal with.

It was a tough day. My body aches. I think I will sleep very hard tonight.

  10. Tomorrow! Hoboken’s premier arts and music event returns to Washington Street. Nine blocks of arts and crafts and food and music, from Observer Highway to Seventh Street. I’ll be there with a redesigned booth and lots of affordable, original, handmade art. #art #artSky #streetfair #Hoboken

  11. Tonight is the last night of the Friday Night Market series. After a summer of evening street fair events featuring local artists, makers, food, and music, the event is finally wrapping things up. Soon it will be colder, wetter, and the days will be shorter making outdoor venues like this impossible.

But today, the sun is out and the temperatures are a nice lower 60s—perfect for a nice stroll through booths of community artisans doing their thing they feel passionate about. Me included.

I hope to see you there.

  12. Just got back from my second day perusing the North Country Fair in Arcata, which is a huge arts fair with vendors from all over northern California and Oregon.

I got to chat briefly with some artists, and purchased some prints and cards. I’m really happy with what I got, and they’ll all look gorgeous in my home!

I also got to talk with an artist who used mesh walls to suspend her artwork, and I may consider that at some point. Pricey investment, but potentially a solution to my ever-shrinking table-top space. If I ever want to upgrade to selling a lot of framed prints, I’m going to invest in a way to do that. It was nice seeing the walls in action, and I was impressed!

    Onward!

  14. Did my first vending event without the hubby to assist. Arcata’s Friday Night Market has a slightly different vibe than Eureka’s, but it’s all good.

Still meeting wonderful people who I want to converse with, but tonight it was challenging because I was the only one working in the booth. I think I lost a lot of sales because my hubby wasn’t there to be a second salesperson. There were moments when the booth was quite crowded and the conversationalists seemed to be unaware I needed to pay attention to others besides them…

I need to figure out how to politely excuse myself without offense. still working on it.

But it went well, and I proved to myself that I could do it by myself. I loaded and unloaded the car myself, got all the setup done in 1 hr 15 min, and takedown in 45 min. Then reloaded and unloaded at home. So that was a huge deal for me: proving to myself that in a pinch, it can be done. I feel tired, but it’s a good tired.

  15. Tonight I set up my booth for the first time by myself. I had to do it eventually, so now’s as good a time as any.

it’s a lot of stuff, and while I usually have my husband helping me, he can’t tonight. So it will take me double the time to set it up and take it down. I’m sure I can do it, I just expect it’s going to be a long night. Haha!

    Wish me luck!

  16. Tonight #FridayNightMarkets shifts from their summer home in Eureka to a month-long stint in Arcata, about 15 minutes north and the home of Cal Poly Humboldt.

I’m excited for the new experience, new attendees, new venue! It should be a lot of fun! We’ll see how it goes!

  17. Tonight’s the last night of #FridayNightMarkets in Eureka before it moves north to Arcata for the month of September.

It has been a fabulous day today with the sun shining and a nice low 60s temp. Soft breeze. I’m thinking tonight may be a busy night as folks come out and swing through for the last time.

    We’ll see!

  18. I got approved to continue my Friday Night Markets experience for the rest of August in Eureka, and approved for the smaller new version in Arcata, ten minutes north, which will extend through September. It’ll be focused primarily on serving students coming back to Cal Poly Humboldt.

Having taught college for 23+ years, I’m hoping I can make some things that cater directly to what they might need.

I’m excited to see what happens!
