  1. 3 things about David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS [2012]

    1. A slow elevator, soundtracked with Satie.
    2. The way Juliette Binoche simply vanishes.
    3. Eggplant leftovers for the chauffeur.

DeLillo's work drags a reclusive and idealistic artist into the global politics he speaks to and lives against. Setting up to be a devastating story.

An artist/writer is pulled out of his seclusion to engage the postmodern world of terrorism and war, a struggle of individual consciences against mob thought. I chose this for the theme and as a follow-up to Alameddine's "Comforting Myths."

  4. “I’m also surprised in retrospect that I didn’t pick what’s often referred to as a ‘ #systemsnovel,’ by which I mean the work of authors like #WilliamGaddis, #DonDeLillo, #ThomasPynchon and #DavidFosterWallace - #writers who deal with vast and complex systems..” fivebooks.com/best-books/b...

  5. Reading novels about #NYC in order to supervise a senior thesis on the city. #Cosmpolis by #DonDeLillo was very good (though #WhiteNoise remains my favorite of his).

  6. Great suggestions in this essay about "temporal displacement, time loops, time skips, time slips or parallel timelines." salon.com/2023/07/25/gotta-get
If #time is of interest, you can check out a volume of essays I edited, published by #CambridgeUP, that takes up this issue in #US #literature from its #indigenous roots to #DonDeLillo, from the #SalemWitchTrials to the #graphic novel, #RichardMcGuire's #Here. I also wrote a book on #tempo(e)rality with, you guessed it, #Poe as the (wobbly) center.

  7. Seems a good time to reread White Noise. I love DeLillo's gentle gear-shifts from the everyday to the transcendent

  8. 3 things about Noah Baumbach’s WHITE NOISE [2022]

    1. Hitler/Elvis fugue.
    2. Busby Berkeley garbage.
    3. The generic aisle.

  9. I am reading #WhiteNoise by #DonDeLillo and find it disturbingly relevant to today. A toxic spill, people wearing masks, conspiracy theories, a real evacuation being used to refine the protocols for a simulated evacuation, a popular Hitler studies program in a college, data models of individual person’s lives assembled from disparate data sources and accessible in an abandoned Boy Scout barracks. Why isn’t everyone reading this book????? #Bookstodon

  10. The best description of the Warren Commission to date:

"This is the megaton novel James Joyce would have written if he'd moved to lowa City and lived to be a hundred.

This is the Joycean Book of America, remember--the novel in which nothing is left out."

  11. @ghorwood @jacobydave
I just (a couple nights back) watched it and found it to be an enjoyable, absurdly quirky romp…with more than a few laugh-out-loud moments….

I’ve only read a bit of Delillo, and this isn’t one of the few. I’ve put a hold on it at my library but it appears I’m late to the game on that maneuver (60th in line on a handful of copies), stay tuned…

  12. Time to watch White Noise at last. The book is dear to my heart (and I wrote my first research paper about it, you can read it below if you care, it wasn't good).
Not sure what the film is gonna be like...

  13. Reading #Cosmopolis has made me want to revisit Cronenberg's film. I didn't care for it on first viewing, though it has some great lines from DeLillo. This one is my open letter to Silicon Valley

  14. @Filoffen En fantastisk bog. #dondelillo #whitenoice

  15. "Reputation is a delicate thing. A person rises on a word and falls on a syllable." —Don DeLillo, Cosmopolis

Late to this one, but it feels weirdly prophetic. It's a strange kind of fantasia, using gorgeous language to convey gloomy ideas through a protagonist as compelling as he is repellent

  16. White Noise is not my favorite novel, but it's probably the one that has been the most impactful in my life, as the movie adaptation is coming out this week on #Netflix, I thought it'd be a good idea to dig through my archives and republish the very first research paper I wrote in graduate school, which incidentally was about the novel. It may not be a masterpiece, but I believe it has some interesting bits.
    Enjoy.

  17. @JordanFischer I remember reading "White Noise" for my university course 20-something years ago and really enjoying it, then went on and read "Underworld" and "Cosmopolis", which I also really enjoyed. But then read his latest "The Silence" a couple of years ago, which I thought was absolutely terrible, and I felt so disappointed!

  18. I may or may not have mentioned that I found my old research papers from grad school on a hard drive. So I have decided to publish them on my blog.
Here is the first one. It's the first one I wrote, but it also happens to be about #WhiteNoise by #DonDeLillo. You may have heard that the movie adaptation is coming to #Netflix very soon (is it next week? probably).

I don't know if it's going to be an interesting read for you, but just in case, here it is:
