I seem to have been spending a lot of time, over the last few weeks, trying to make sure that I remain on friendly terms with my mortality.
It's not that I feel my death is imminent.
It's just that the fact that my end is always closer has been figuring more centrally in the way I conduct of my daily life, for some reason. -
I just carried a 12-lb. (5.4kg) sack of groceries from the unfortunately- (or is it defiantly- ?) named BJ's on 237th St. in Riverdale (da Bronx) to our apartment in #Inwood, #UpperManhattan, a distance of 1.4 miles (~2.25km).
Does Strava record activity like that? I don't know, but I'll bet not.
I want a damned gold star!

Hello
I look forward to your posts!I'm an #AlterKacker from #UpperManhattan
of no achievement and no credentials
who, with the torrent of newcomers to the Fediverse, has a new appreciation of the #hashtag and
who has this axe I grind tirelessly, #SeizeTheMeansOfCommunity
with no apparent uptake whatsoever,
thus preserving my status as a #schlub -

It's about 9:15 am in #NYC.
In about 45 minutes my wife and I will board an A train in uptown Manhattan and travel to City Hall, at the bottom of the island, where a noonday rally of #SeniorsForZohran will be held.
My wife is scheduled to speak.
Security and stamina permitting, I'll try to document the event.#MamdaniForMayorNYC

My wife's first appearance (and my first video) on #loops ( #loopsvideo ), the people's anticapitalist answer to TikTok (and, I guess, RedNotes).

Morning walk south, through Fort Tryon Park. I usually ascend the steep hill on the west side of the park, for the great views of the Hudson River, but today I chose to give my knees a rest and stick to the eastern edge, which hugs Broadway.

Today in the classroom:
First year chem are working on assigning oxidation numbers in compounds and reactions. We'll do some work with that and then split equations into half reactions.
Second year chem have all finished their final exam, so today will be the last day to do corrections. Seniors are finished after today, we'll do the customary "signing of the lab bench" and then they'll give me some anonymous feedback on the course.

A personal story: My team was never bigger than right now and we have even another open position, first internal only.
I think technology company are a bit hyped for everything and it's and never really were correct. And this leads to over hiring and reducing employees again because the nature of economics come back from time to time.
AI won't disappear and we engineers need to understand the value and benefits of it. I think in general we don't know what is true about it because the market and technology is over hyped. As a suggestion to not learn a company product: use open source, because it will stay.
Companies will be acquired or stopped or the product closed after acquisition. It's not valuable for the long run to use claude or whatever is "cool" today. Use #opensource -

Today I am proud to announce that Phase One of my wildlife conservation project is complete.
This project is personal. I come from a family of farmers and wildlife rangers. Conservation is not just a cause for me, it is my heritage. After losing my job, I spent months in the fields, mountains, and valleys of our beautiful land, Namibia, talking to my community, listening, and building.
The road has not been easy. The project faces a serious challenge: funding. I have exhausted my budget. On top of that, my ideas are being taken by those in power, people who know that without their approval, the project cannot move forward. That is the biggest obstacle I face.
And yet, at the end of it all, if this project never sees the light of day, I will still be proud that I tried. Proud that Django and Python were the tools I chose. Proud that the open-source community walked this road with me.
I am also still open to job opportunities though.
Thank you, Django community. Thank you, Python community, Thank you, Ubuntu community.. You gave me the tools and the encouragement. This is as much yours as it is mine.

ClickFix Evolves with PySoxy Proxying
A sophisticated ClickFix campaign was observed in April 2026 deploying PySoxy, a decade-old open-source Python SOCKS5 proxy tool, to establish encrypted proxy access on compromised hosts. The attack chain begins with social engineering that tricks users into executing obfuscated PowerShell commands, which then establishes scheduled task persistence and deploys an in-memory PowerShell-based command-and-control agent. Following domain reconnaissance activities, attackers deploy PySoxy to create a redundant encrypted access channel. The persistence mechanism continues attempting re-execution even after initial connections are blocked, demonstrating how single ClickFix executions can evolve into modular post-exploitation chains. This development represents a significant evolution from simple one-time execution to durable access with multiple redundant pathways, requiring comprehensive remediation beyond blocking initial callbacks.

For context:
We went from “cannot understand the difference between C and PHP” to “can sometimes write a valid function” to “works reasonably well to work on single files” to “can build a full greenfield app but needs extensive guidance on architecture and APIs” to “can build a full app with an engineer in the loop and build on top of it for a few weeks” to “decent at architecture and can build smaller systems without guidance” in 3 years.
But when I was trying to talk about labor issues and it being a paradigm shift for the industry at large, the standard response was that I was deluded and spreading FUD. The take that the tools are useless has been constant too, except the goal posts constantly move to whatever the current state of the art. Another take that never dies is that using llm based tools somehow can’t involve skill, that there is no difference between the prompting of an experienced software engineer who has spent years working with llms and the 3 prompts one has put into a random model “to try things out”. Imagine someone coming to like Elixir from Java, typing a few classes in Java, runs it and gets errors and say “elixir is kinda useless, all I got to run was this super barebones program after 17 tries and lots of compile errors”.
Whether one like using these tools or not (especially if you don’t like them), and especially if you are relatively new to them, spend just a few minutes or hours to compare how far you get with llama (the OG) and pure copy paste by hand, to a newer 8B model in an agent harness, to a model like glm5.1 to gpt5.5 or opus4.6 in a harness.
That’s the last 2 years in a bottle.
