The UK government ceasing automatically to support almost anything the government of Israel does is a major shift. The next step should be to rescind the ban on #PalestineAction, to stop treating protesters as terrorists, and to acknowledge that those seeking to disrupt a genocide may have a point.

I'm #reading Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici and in it she points out that - since the overwhelming majority of those accused of witchcraft were peasant women -- the wealth gain from seizing their property was minuscule compared to the wealth that could be gained stealing land in the New World.
Referencing the work of Michael Taussig, she suggests that one reason for the witch-hunt was actually to silence dissenting voices which were in opposition to the proto-capitalism that was taking root.
Hmm. Persecuting dissenting voices ... 🤔

I think it's possible that the people behind proscribing Palestine Action might have underestimated the effects of how unsettling this all is for middle-class people who basically trusted "the system" before.
I wonder did they _want_ that effect for some reason, and it's going to be the excuse for something worse later on, or are they just not very clever?
An article from a while back talked about how much the police don't like it either. Some of them joined thinking that their job was to catch villains and protect "the public", and they _hated_ being sent to arrest old people who reminded them of their grandads and grandmas, for sitting around in a friendly way doing basically nothing. The disillusion was bad for morale.
I said before, I think it's "bringing the law into disrepute".

This "Filton Six" trial is worth keeping an eye on.
"Every single prosecution witness who gave evidence about the melee was obliged to change their statement when confronted by the defence with video evidence which contradicted it. This included much more video than was released by the prosecution.
"The prosecution produced a misleading account of the number and location of CCTV cameras in the factory. They were obliged to present a new map showing more cameras.
"The video evidence was left in or given into the hands of Elbit. A search of Elbit’s premises in November 2025 found the USB sticks of video in their Metropolitan Police evidence bags in Elbit’s safe."
