#ICC #InternationalJustice #Palestine #InternationalLaw #WarCrimes

  3. > the enforcement problem with current international law

There is no enforcement problem with #InternationalLaw. No enforcement - no problem. And that's by design. And there is a very good reason why it was designed that way.

Technically #UN has a military committee, MSC, but luckily for everyone it never actually functioned.

  4. #Palestine Is Being Erased Before Our Eyes’: 100 Former French, British Diplomats Say End Weapons Sales, Trade With Israel

The abuses by the Israeli government and military are “a stain on the conscience of humanity, requiring the #UK and #France to act.”

    Jon Queally, Aug 23, 2026

"While critics of the French and British governments say they are doing too little to confront the crimes and #HumanRights violations of #Israel against the #PalestinianPeople, about 100 former diplomats of the two nations penned an open letter published over the weekend agreeing that much stronger actions must be taken to end the atrocities taking place in both the Gaza Strip and the Occupied West Bank.

Published in Le Monde on Saturday, the joint op-ed by the former UK and French ambassadors and foreign diplomats argues that because their two nations 'played a decisive role in the shaping of the Middle East,' it is incumbent upon them to 'make common cause over the region’s fundamental faultline: equal rights for Israelis and #Palestinians' — a dynamic grossly lacking as Palestinians are starved and bombed in #Gaza, with their rights endlessly under assault in the #WestBank.

    According to the letter:

    - In Gaza, two million Palestinians are kettled into 30% of their devastated land, hungry, lacking medicine and housing. Over 1,200 Palestinians have been killed since the so-called 'ceasefire' of October 2025. In #EastJerusalem and the rest of the #WestBank, Palestinian house demolitions and rampant settler violence— with the connivance of the Israeli army and police—amount to ethnic cleansing. Palestine is being erased before our eyes.

    - This policy of occupation and destruction extends to #Lebanon — where many villages have been razed — and Syria. It is a stain on the conscience of humanity, requiring the UK and France to act."

  5. #UK, #Canada and #Australia condemn #Israel for refusing criminal probe into #AidWorker killings in #Gaza

    Tinshui Yeung, 8/21/ 2026

"The UK, Canada and Australia have described as 'shameful' Israel's decision not to launch a criminal investigation into strikes on a #WorldCentralKitchen (#WCK) convoy in Gaza in 2024, which killed seven humanitarian workers.

"The victims were three British nationals, a Pole, an Australian, a Canadian and a dual US-Canadian citizen.

"A joint statement by the three foreign ministries said: 'The victims of this incident and their families deserve justice and accountability, and we will continue to seek answers on their behalf.'

"Earlier, Israel's ambassador to Australia, Hillel Newman, defended the decision, saying 'there was no criminal intention" and therefore "no criminal responsibility'.

"The statement said that on 1 April 2024, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fired on the WCK convoy as it was delivering food to civilians in Gaza.

" 'In the more than two years since, we have been pressing for Israel to swiftly and thoroughly consider the case and hold those responsible to account,' it said.

"The three countries said the fact that Israel's announcement came on #WorldHumanitarianDay, 'while the world honoured the courage and sacrifice of humanitarians, was particularly egregious'.

"It also said the WCK attack was only 'one of countless incidents in Gaza where there has been no accountability', as Gaza remains 'the deadliest place to deliver aid', with 186 humanitarian workers killed in 2025.

"It urged Israel to comply with its obligations under international #humanitarian law and do more to ensure that humanitarian staff can carry out their work safely."

  6. The law of the innocents: Ireland’s medieval precursor to the Geneva conventions.

The Geneva conventions, which were signed in the aftermath of the horrors of WW2, are generally accepted as the gold standard of international humanitarian law.

But they were preceded by more than 12 centuries by a law drawn up by a monk amid the violence of seventh-century Ireland.

Prior to the pause, the #US #military had destroyed at least 67 vessels & killed at least 221 people since the “Operation Southern Spear” campaign began in Sept 2025, acc/to official announcements & CNN’s analysis of search & rescue efforts.

The EU has been urged to hit back at Donald Trump’s administration’s sanctions campaign against the International Criminal Court – by invoking a little-known ‘blocking statute’ that would ban companies and banks from complying with the sanctions.

  14. #Climate #refugees are not protected under existing #internationallaw

"The 1951 Refugee Convention would need to expand the definition of who qualifies as a refugee. It should recognise internal displacement as a valid reason for protection. It should also include climate change and natural disasters as events that can seriously disrupt public order."

"This approach is already reflected in two regional refugee agreements. One is the 1969 Convention Governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa, also known as the OAU Convention. The other is the 1984 Cartagena Declaration on Refugees, also known as the Cartagena Declaration."

  21. The Invisible Invasion: Britain’s Immigration Panic and the Arithmetic It Cannot Face By Lawson Akhigbe

Black people account for roughly four percent of the population of England and Wales. More of them are in the EastEnders cast than are arriving on the asylum route in any given year. Yet Britain has contrived to make this the defining political question of the age. We should talk about that.

  23. I must assume that Trump’s next move is going to be to close all air traffic in and out of the USA? After all his mangled efforts to bully other countries are simply making the country a pariah state (in the past we have had many easier regimes to ignore). Better get on with accelerating the move away from a US controlled banking system that enables a Prez to remove Mastercard and Visa ‘privaleges’ from whomsoever.
