For if empathy, compassion, and dignity are truly human, why has society forgotten that men need them too?
Why is it that a man can carry scars, pain, responsibility, and hardship, yet still be made to feel that he is not allowed to need help or shed tears?
I am 48 years old, disabled, and living in poverty. Every day is a struggle against chronic pain, exhaustion, declining mobility, worsening vision, cognitive difficulties, hunger, and financial insecurity.
My disability income does not come close to covering the cost of living. I regularly face impossible choices between food, hygiene, basic necessities, and survival. My body is wearing down faster than I can keep up with, and I have no family, support network, or safety net to rely on.
I am not asking for luxury. I am asking for dignity.
I need help covering food, hygiene supplies, clothing, healthcare expenses, housing stability, and other basic necessities. Any contribution, no matter the size, helps me survive another day and move toward a more stable future.
My goal is not simply to endure. I want to build lasting stability, secure housing, and eventually create a place where I can help others who face the same struggles I have endured.

Last week, we went to the village of Jannata, near the Kochav Yehuda outpost, an offshoot of the violent Ha’Itam Farm outpost. We were there to accompany a Palestinian man back to the home he was recently expelled from, which has since been “converted” into the outpost’s toilet.
Settlers blocked our way and injured the homeowner, and soldiers then removed both him and us from the area. A CBS 60 Minutes crew was with us and documented the settler violence and the army’s role in the dispossession.

Some history?
That guy came out in the 80's claiming he, as a teen created the ultima series.
I Remember because Origin Systems was featured in Omni magazine right after Ultima 3 was announced. It was there they said the next three(3) titles in the series were finished.
Back to garriot.....
Well Origin, was being pressured in to making PC games which they resisted.
Garriot then surfaced claiming he was coding for Origin Systems since he was 12 years old! And that his father, who was never positively identified passed the libraries to him the he his father was coding for the last 25 or 30 years.
He also stated that he believed "in principle" that Origin should agree to develop PC titles and that his opinion "carried great weught"....
The father was never identified but as coincidence should have it Gary Gagax was also threatening to sue Origin along with TSR.
He claimed in the media to not actually own the ultima games but just like the entire D and D series he claimed to be the main developer.
So the Ultima creators according to this were Garriot, the father never identified and Gygax.
The TSR lawsuit concluded with Gygax never proving his claims but all the rights to certain future projects were transferred to a news company.
One of the inspirations for the settlement which they judges themselves help draft was the thansfering of all intellectual property including the Origin name to third parties.
About 8 years after that Garriot was one of the holders of Origin when he tried to force the other holders to transfer their rights to him Garriot.
Claiming, for fuck sake, to be historically the main developer of the Ultima series because his "secret father" as he called this individual was the real developer of the games and he was working for Origin since he was 12 YEARS OLD.....!!
The resulting lawsuit was bankrolled by gary gygax,....again.
the legal solution was to simply sell the rights. the company was sold for about 30 million and that had to be split several ways so Garriot got about 1/20th of the settlement then he himself was sued by several financial backers so he eventually declared bankruptcy.
By then it was time to release Ultima Online....

At work we use an MRP that isn't finished, doesn't do everything we need it to, and has been pushing an AI assistant to perform tasks that a person with adequate training should be able to do on their own faster than the assistant can respond. They also have been suggesting we try using the assistant to build our own modules that do what we need them to do. (I'm deeply confused by ALL of this, because there are dozens of existing, proven MRP systems that have been around for decades, and also the crappy one we are using had actually been functional enough that we have been using it to do business for about 2 years.)
Meanwhile, we suddenly have a custom app that pulls info from that MRP to do stuff that we wished it could do, and the person who is making it is updating it with new functionality sometimes several times a day. This person's background is in NOT software development.
Apparently we make custom software ourselves to compensate for the shitty software we PAY FOR which is being developed using probably the same LLM that we're using to make our own software to make THAT software actually usable.
As far as I can tell, we are doing this because nobody can be bothered to just learn how to use the software we are already paying for, which was adequate right to to the point where we fired the only person that really knew how to use it and replaced her with 3 dudes that don't know the software we use.
I was going to keep describing this ouroboros, but I cannot bear it.
You know what my job is? It's measuring things comprised of complex geometry that need to be accurate to sometimes a few microns. I am really good at it, and I really like doing it. I take seriously the task of not putting stuff in the air that is going to fail randomly and kill someone by accident. I can't help but think I'm about to be replaced by an LLM that I guarantee cannot do my job, because it's a miracle I can do it at all, given the trash designs people expect me to work with.
One of the reasons that I—and many others, I'm sure—have left the christian church is the terrible disconnect between the teachings of Jesus and the behaviour of His followers. And I'm not talking about personal stuff, either. It's the absolute public failures.
For instance, my home city has a daycare that was recently trashed and robbed. The daycare is in a low-income part of the city and serves a largely Indigenous population. They now face prohibitively high costs to replace the stolen security system, a broken fence, and a $2000 stroller (as well as personal electronics and teaching aids).
Meanwhile, also in Winnipeg, there are several megachurches, including ne that was the centre of a "protest" against the rules prohibiting large gatherings during the early months of the COVID pandemic. The church is huge, and they clearly have plenty of cash. And that's just one of them.
With this many wealthy christians in the city, there should never be a daycare that can't afford to recover losses like they just experienced. They shouldn't have to call their government representatives and the press to get the news out there. They should be able to call the churches to ask for help. And that help should come without strings.
And this disparity is so common that it is simply a characteristic of christians. I want nothing to do with that label any more.

[Thread] So, back in 2024, the city of #SanfordME cleared out a #HomelessEncampment in a wooded area near an abandoned mill. Since Sanford has NO #HomelessShelters (not even a #WarmingCenter), folks had no choice but to take up shelter in the nearby abandoned mill building. And, of course, there was a fire, though some of it was still standing. Despite repeated sweeps, folks kept coming back to the mill building (though now the city has closed off the street). And Sanford still has NO shelters or options for their #unhoused residents!

There’s an Asian kid in the robots group. Really smart. Crack driver. Good at systems thinking; she took charge of electronics and does a pretty good job of figuring things out. Crack driver, too. We're going to SHOUT! and I think she'll be awesome.
At the end of club today i walked over to her. “can I tell you something slightly uncomfortable?” “yes?” “… so uh. I think I see you not asking for asking for assistance or attention when you need it. I recognize that behavior, I’ve been struggling with it all my life. I’m trying to remind you when I see it. It’ll be a bit challenging. You can ask me to stop, and I will, but I think it will help you. And I want to you to know where it’s coming from. ”
it’s so damned familiar. and i think she saw that saying all that was hard, which made me self conscious about it. probably a plus.
And I look at the reflection of myself in my head and I think: It doesn’t help that I look like a middle aged white dude. One who as learned to swallow the fear and exhibit Professional Authority. One who has no reason to be secure. And is standing in front of a kid being small, and looking visibly scared. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it does.
