The Moment Before
While standing on the pier at Tybee Island Beach, I caught this Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) at the exact moment it committed to a plunge-dive for fish. Brown Pelicans are one of only two pelican species known to hunt this way—the other being the larger Peruvian Pelican (Pelecanus thagus).
