🗺️ Making atlases better, one version at a time
Not everything works perfectly on the first try — sometimes the most obvious design ideas come late and suddenly! 🤣
Here’s one example: showing community boundaries so that people unfamiliar with cartography can at least find their own street.
In the second version (right), I added a subtle shading effect that keeps the map’s analytical context but visually highlights the selected community.
Each atlas is generated automatically in QGIS Report Designer — one atlas per city sector, with multiple communities.
That means this improvement wasn’t just “drawing a border manually,” but rather a data-driven programming and sorting task integrated into the atlas workflow.🟩 Left: earlier version

🌿 Calgary’s vegetation — satellite comparison (2024 → 2025)
Median NDVI maps from mid-May to mid-September show a clear difference between the two seasons.
In 2025, NDVI values are noticeably higher — vegetation stayed greener and denser for longer.
The wetter summer had a strong effect on canopy productivity across most Calgary communities, especially in parkland and tree-covered zones.🛰️ Based on Sentinel-2 imagery and R + QGIS processing.

En esta oportunidad hablaremos del último de los 4 botones en la parte sup. en la pestaña "Metadatos" del complemento para #QGIS, #QMetadataLayerHISPANIA. Con esta función “Limpiar formulario” el complemento muestra una vez más su versatilidad y que junto a las otras funciones, explicadas en otras entregas, como lo son: Uso de Variables, Uso de metadatos existentes de la capa seleccionada y Uso de metadatos de otra capa; permiten al usuario ahorrar tiempo en el formulario.

Kann mir jemand sagen, welche ungeeignete Projektion die Tagesschau Wetterkarte hat?
Ich tippte mal auf WGS84 und habe das in #QGIS ausprobiert mit Daten via #WFS vom BKG und einer auf zwei Punkten basierenden linearen #Georeferenzierung (nur world file gerechnet).Das passt aber nicht ganz, WGS wäre noch ein bisschen verzerrter in Ost-West, s. Screenshots
Bonus: weiß jemand gerade die Bezeichnung für die verzerrte Darstellung durch geographische Koordinaten als kartesische Koordinaten (x,y)?

Visualization of 3D building models in #QGIS: With #3DCityDB and the plugins 3DCityDB Tools and #Qgis2threejs, LOD1 and LOD2 data can be visualized in a 3D view. In addition, there are visualizations of the street space divisions on the images (released by the city of #Kiel using #FragDenStaat). Next steps are to enrich the map with more objects and nag the state #SH @landesregierung to build a better downloader for #OpenData / #OpenGeoData.

Visualisierung von 3D-Gebäudemodellen in #QGIS: Mit der #3DCityDB und den Plugins 3DCityDB Tools und #Qgis2threejs lassen sich LOD1- und LOD2-Daten in einer 3D-Ansicht visualisieren. Dazu kommen auf den Bildern Visualisierungen der Straßenraumaufteilungen (von der Stadt #Kiel mittels #FragDenStaat befreit). Nächste Schritte sind das Anreichern der Karte mit weiteren Objekten und das Land #SH @landesregierung nerven, einen besseren Downloader für #OpenData / #OpenGeoData zu bauen.
