  2. Gaza, even bread has become a luxury we can no longer afford. A single sack of flour costs nearly 70 and I’m terrified of watching my children go hungry when we have nothing left to feed them.
🙏 Please, don’t leave us alone in this struggle. Any donation, no matter how small, could help put bread on my children’s table. Please donate and share. 💔🇵🇸

I have to stop watching the American news for a while...

  6. Exactly 3 years ago, I released my second short film! 😊

Entirely made in #blender #b3d, it was quite an achievement to pull out a more than 10 minutes film.

  7. #27 El Orfanato (2007)

This is pretty good! I think it kind of chickens out on the ending. But to be honest, I spent most of it distracted because the Wikipedia entry talks a lot about how they tried to shoot it to emulate classic 70s Spanish horror, and as someone who has been watching that or adjacent films all month, they missed the mark so hard stylistically.

  8. RE: flipboard.com/@natobserver/can

‼️ As someone who requires a *boring* pureed diet the fact your editor left the final paragraph in your reader's mind is appallingly irresponsible and reckless.

It implies the death of an individual by means of choking on food , a terrifying experience, is less important than an outsider watching a few seconds of the patient's "face light up" as they try to chew snd swallow crunchy food.

Exactly whose feelings are satisfied here?

  9. This is truly interesting and I must admit I had no clue about the extraordinary democratic events really happening in Serbia.
My "knowledge" (or lack thereof), was shaped by the lacklustre reporting of national and international media. Something that increasingly annoys me.
Same in regard of reporting about the protests in France: a lot of coverage about violence and destruction, but hardly anything about the background, the details and the objective proportions of peaceful protest vs violence.
Klickbait headlines everywhere. Well researched, truthfull, informative and trustworthy journalism: rare exemption and hard to find among all the slop.

  10. Our little #cohousing group, The Reef, is featured by Flemish newspaper De Standaard among the "Belgian organisations who refuse to use Big Tech's #AI". Which is true, but only part of the story, and not the funny part.

    The article (paywalled): standaard.be/economie/chatgpt-

The same story told by us: edgeryders.eu/t/introducing-di

If you are not from Belgium, I recommend watching the video excerpts. You will learn a lot about a little-publicized side of Brussels culture.

  11. oh, and I meant to add that this rule is actually fairly old, it looks like it dates to 1998. I *feel* like I see this labeling way more often these days, but I wonder if that's just because a lot more manufacturers are putting "no added sugar" on labeling. "no added sugar" is an interesting story of food labeling policy because it's sometimes quite meaningless...

like the old XKCD about asbestos free breakfast cereal, a *lot* of things with natural sugar content suddenly sprout "no added sugar" verbiage whenever focus groups say they're watching their sugar intake. I assume the FDA devoted specific attention to the "no added sugar" claim for that reason.

  12. A combination of wedding hangover and cold has me feeling a little beat up. Hope to bounce back tomorrow, but might end up being like a half day. Need an early night.

None of this bodes well for me watching either the Eagles continue to struggle on MNF against the hated Cowboys, or Game 3 of the WS. Go Brewers.

  13. Mike McCarthy praises the Veteran Leadership with the Steelers: “Our young defensive linemen have played well. They're doing some really good things. Cam has done an excellent job with his leadership and the way he gives back. Veterans can offer so much in the little things, whether it's something they say during a one-on-one drill, a quick conversation in the weight room, or a point they make while watching film. It's a lot like parenting. You tell your kids something two or three times, but then if Aaron Rodgers, Cam Heyward, or T.J. Watt says the same thing, it's like they've never heard it before. That's just the reality of it.” #Steelers #NFL

  14. It was not often that Farah could be found sitting still, and thus Amina seized the rare occasion by sneaking up on her friend sitting on a bench by the fountain, tapped her gently on the head, and said "Bonk".

Farah whipped around, grinned, and hugged Amina tightly, awkwardly slung over the backrest of the bench.

"That's bonkers!" Farah laughed. Loudly. People were watching.

"Oh no." Amina sighed, her eyes wide.

"Bonk jour, mon amie!" Farah lifted a pantomimed hat off her head.

"Oh no no no..." Amina sank next to her friend onto the bench, bracing for impact.

"Bonk. James Bonk." Farah hummed with a deep voice and a deadpan expression.

Amina struggled to suppress a grin.

"Always good for a laugh! You can take that to the bonk!" Farah finger-gunned Amina.

"And if the bonk fails us..." Farah sighed and collapsed onto Amina.

    Amina raised an expectant eyebrow.

"We'll move in together and get bonk-beds."

  15. 💻 memray: 15.3 k ⭐

I had a Python process eating 8GB of RAM and no idea which line was responsible. Memray showed me in a flame graph.

Memray is a memory profiler from Bloomberg that traces every allocation — Python code, C extensions, NumPy, Pandas, everything. It generates flame graphs, HTML reports, and live terminal views showing exactly where memory goes. Tracks native threads too, with minimal slowdown.

If you've ever stared at `top` watching Python's memory climb and had no idea why, memray gives you the full picture.

  16. The video of the talk we gave in May has finally been published!

The talk was titled "But I Have Nothing To Hide! Or How Big Techs and States made you believe so" and was presented at VLCTechFest in Valencia, Spain.

    youtube.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ

    (or via Invidious: https://
    invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ)

    Its description was as follows:

"Data collection has become something that is hard to avoid in our modern societies. From telemetry to sensible personal data, many companies and even state actors rely on it for carrying out their operations. But is it really an issue? After all, I have nothing to hide.

What if I tell you that women were persecuted in the USA because they played to Candy Crush or used Tinder, and that their location data were sold to law enforcement which now criminalises people going to abortion clinics in some states? Or that it isn’t that difficult to figure out the real identity of spies with publicly sold data for little money? And when the data isn’t already available, state actors don’t hesitate to hack their own population, including in democratic countries like France and Spain.

Data collection has tangible impacts on our societies and democracies. Whether it’s for making business profits or controlling its own population while weakening adversary countries, the goal is the same: control. And with the current AI trend, data collection is reaching unprecedented highs.

So, what can we do about it in 2026? Thankfully, many technical and legal solutions exist, and we all have a role to play in it. Whether you are an entrepreneur, someone involved into the creation of a software, or a simple user, your choices can have a positive impact."

If you happen to watch it, let us know what you think.

So, here is a short-form video showing some ACTUAL traits of a pwNPD.

I chose to make a click-baity thumb to lure people in (master manipulators that we are), but it's for the greater good, sooo... have fun watching!

He showed up tired. He worked when nobody saw it. Most of what he gave you, you didn't understand until you grew up.

That's legacy. Not what he owned, but who you became because he was there.

One day his chair will be empty. Don't wait. Call him. Say the words. 📞

  19. Wife and self liked S1 of #NobodyWantsThis, even with its issues with representation of Jews and Judiasm, especially Jewish women.

S2 was much better. Not perfect, but got a lot more things right, and the characters were less…over the top WRT stereotypes.

We had to stop watching at S3:E2, because Noah interrupted Joanne in her 1st intro to Judaism class to share PROFESSIONAL GOSSIP about the synagogue RIGHT THERE. He doesn’t deserve the Sr Rabbi job.

  20. “The other big story of the week was Trump’s increasing violence toward reporters and protesters:

–One thing that’s been very clear this past week is that Trump’s violent impulses are becoming greater and greater. He is now encouraging his rally goers to beat up protesters.

–There were at least a dozen hecklers at Trump’s rally Wednesday night, and Trump got angrier and angrier at each interruption. Rallygoers pounded on one protester, hitting him repeatedly, and Trump said, “That was great, man. Wow! I loved that.”

–The night before, Trump had said he used to tell supporters to “beat the hell” out of protesters, but learned not to say things like that. “Today I say, ‘Please don’t hurt them.’ This way the press can’t get me.”

–Heather Delaney Reese; “He told everyone watching that he wasn’t trying to protect his fellow Americans from violence; he was just trying to avoid criticism from the media… “

As of Sept. 19, police data showed there had been 23 reported fatal collisions, a 77 per cent uptick from last September.

While Ottawa police told CBC the number of overall collisions as of Sept. 19 has remained similar to last year, they believe distracted driving is behind the increase in deaths. (Data including October's crashes is not yet available, they added.)

Callaghan said he recently pulled over a distracted driver who was watching Buffalo Bills highlights behind the wheel.

  24. Yesterday, I watched the Mexican film Flies (Moscas), which deals with cancer. I found it particularly sad and moving, perhaps because I watched it just one day before the Brazilian presidential election.

I couldn't help seeing an analogy between cancer and the erosion of democracy.

Cancer can develop in different parts of the body. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, and some can become cancerous, spreading and eventually threatening the entire organism.

I kept thinking about how something similar can happen to democracy. Undemocratic forces can emerge in different parts of society and its institutions, gradually weakening the very system that allows them to exist.

Watching a film about such a devastating disease, while fearing for the future of democracy in my country, was an unexpectedly emotional experience.

  25. #WritersCoffeeClub 10/25: Tell us about inspiration from an unlikely source.

So my most recently published novel, Neon Citadel, started out as an image and I wrote the entire book towards that final image.

    The real life inspiration was:
During Covid lockdown I was picking up Thai food for dinner for my wife and I, and when I left the Thai place and turned back onto the main road, there were tens of thousands of birds (starlings is my best guess, it was dusk... they became corvids in the book), gathered on the power lines and trees and anywhere they could sit, as if they were watching the road or watching me drive down the road.

It felt like the most birds I'd even seen in one place and it was beautiful and ominous in the dusk light, and probably felt all the more ominous because of that lingering lockdown feeling. As many holes as there are in my poor ADD brain, I've never forgotten that moment/image.

  27. CW: Frank discussion of suicide, disability, capitalism

My Dad Died by Suicide. He Left Me With 694 Video Diaries to Explain Why | NYT Opinion

There are at least two types of ableism here: systemic ableism, and internalized ableism.

And ableism is entwined with capitalism, toxic masculinity, and other oppressive systems, so it's a Gordian knot of these things, not simple to tease apart into separate bits.

I think this is worth watching, especially for abled people. Because the time to fight ableism is NOW. If you become disabled, it doesn't mean you're suddenly free of ableism. And every bit of contempt you've been taught to feel about disabled people will be turned on yourself. You will feel worth less. You may judge yourself as "without an identity" because you may not be able to do the same work. That will add the crushing burden of internalized ableism to the external burdens of systemic ableism.
