    "Flying Nun on Multitrack

First installment of my blog about these special tapes in the FNR and Chris Knox collections at National Library of NZ. What is a multitrack? What is on these tapes? And how can you listen to and research them?"

  3. @vga256 @cultdev

That's a great, little mini-documentary there. Glad that you were able to enjoy that scene. Thanks for sharing!

My formative years were '85-'92 in #Philly #WestPhilly I would _love_ to see old footage from that era. There were only a handful of clubs. But the warehouse/squat scene was vibrant and brought a lot of great music to my ears.

  4. The first song that I heard from The Chills: "Pink Frost".

Probably heard it late one night in 1985 on while I was still in high school. Helped seal my lifelong love for oddball, jangly indie pop(as well as low-budget, moody music videos!).

  5. @mattblaze Great article.

While I don't think it ever made the Billboard Top 100, there is a 4-CD collection of numbers station recordings available up on Internet Archive with ~150 tracks rangins from 1979-99. The original recording came with an 80 page PDF that's quite informative.

  6. All's well that, eventually, ends well.

A mainline was finally struck and actual blood runs through my partner's veins.

Of course this is after two phlebotomists poked her 4 times. Three inside the elbows and then succeeded on the back of her hand. This is the lab we were referred to after the clinic we visited on Wednesday failed after 4 other pokes.

We are not getting the best phlebotomists here. Mr. President, we must not allow a phlebotomist gap!

I love that damn word. #phlebotomist

Thanks for your work & support!

  10. @e_nomem

That's kind of problematic, I would think. Perhaps it's a bug.

    1. hachyderm.io moderators have not announced any policy change to my knowledge.
    2. They don't publish any public info on moderated servers on hachyderm.io/about

It's a relatively minor irritation to me; but, something is broken here.

  11. Adding @hachyderm

Could you please explain/address your policy on filtering/hiding user profiles in previews? Especially for accunts that I am already following. This seems, to me, to be new behaviour.
    Thanks.

  12. Here is an example for a profile I follow from mastodon.social:

I would like to know why the hachyderm moderators decided to start filtering user profiles from other instances. Is this an accident? Is there a documented policy? Is it by instance?

Did the mods accidentally select an incorrect button to filter innocuous content?

She's 2 blocks south of where I 1st landed here 32 years ago. ~10 blocks north of where she was raised from the ages of 2-8.

When I first got here in 1992, it was considered, by some(jokingly) as "the hood".

It's been a good 15 years since I've visited the 'ol neighborhood until today.

For a long time, I knew those streets & alleys like the back of my hand. Incredible seeing the change.

  16. Oh. And to wrap up the day, we spun the wheel and randomly ended up at a wonderful, new(for us) Szechuan restaurant where I had the most cumin-iest lamb dish that numbed my mouth and almost overwhelmed me.

I had no idea that cumin was capable of doing that! Highly recommend!
It was a day of nice, little discoveries. Days like this are keepers.

  18. Looks like there might be an interesting exhibit/presentation in my neighboorhood May 3rd.

Perhaps(!?) a bit of a cynical take on my part, but, it's kind of tragic that it is going to take almost 100 years to re-create the connection between &

There's a decent, if brief, summary of the early in the article.

  19. Ah jeez. It appears that the original article was restored late this afternoon with a few editorial revisions.

The following article details changes made:

  20. A bit more background on the situation with the Herald(and other regional papers) from myEverettNews.com

"Mississippi-based Carpenter Media Group, in coordination with Canso Investment Counsel & Deans Knight Capital Management, assumed control of the Everett Herald and Sound Publishing.

Earlier this month, Carpenter also acquired two dozen Oregon publications."

    myeverettnews.com/2024/06/19/e

  21. More sad news for local reporting:

"The new owners of The Daily Herald gutted over half of the newsroom staff Wednesday, including the newspaper’s two top editors. "

    Per Myeverettnews.com (via twitter):

"Carpenter Media Group forced the The Herald to pull down their own article(archive link below) about the layoffs as the truth 'read like a hit piece.'"

  22. Another local outlet in trouble.

Black Press Media, parent company of Everett Herald, files bankruptcy

The link to the details goes to the Lynnwood Times which has its own issues(IIRC). It's mostly OK reporting(YMMV). I'm not savvy on all the details; but, I _think_ they also have ownership in the Edmonds News site as well.
