  1. Listening to Simon Posford's "Flux & Contemplation - Portrait of an Artist in Isolation", and it reminds me that, yeah, there really was a moment during the pandemic shutdown where we all kinda fixated on numbers stations, didn't we?

CGNAT is just a huge MITM

You never know how many proxies the packets have went thru. Does not matter if your WAN endpoint aapears as v4 or v6.

Unless you have root on your cellphone, you can not control your router. Your cell phone is a router.

Unless you can do full end-to-end encryption, you should expect that all of your packets can be deciphered.

Truly end-to-end encryption is hard. Very hard.

    This is why #numbersStations exist.

If security was easy, everyone would do it.

  4. @mattblaze Great article.

While I don't think it ever made the Billboard Top 100, there is a 4-CD collection of numbers station recordings available up on Internet Archive with ~150 tracks rangins from 1979-99. The original recording came with an 80 page PDF that's quite informative.

  5. It's surprising how many albums in my collection contain samples from the Irdial Conet Project Numbers Stations CDs available in the #publicdomain. It's a rich trove of texture and mystery.

If this kind of thing floats your boat - you might kill two birds w/ one stone: learn something re: how one of the best content creators in the business does what he does, *and* learn something you didn’t already know about #NumbersStations.

Me? I’m waiting for the podcast… I think.

Podcast editing process begins about 37mins into this live-stream video. B4 that it’s setting up & responding to viewers’ comments.

  7. @Brian_Mahoney I started thinking about older punk bands like #CRASS because I swear there were a couple of songs with #NumbersStations recordings under them, can't confirm though.

  8. The conversation between @brewsterkahle and @ftrain tonight about audio in the @internetarchive (i.e., tilde.zone/@ftrain/10933457522) has had me thinking about some of my own favorite bits there:

    * Audio from the #Great78 project (some of the best: archive.org/details/georgebloo) but especially early blues recordings (archive.org/details/georgebloo)

    * #NumbersStations (archive.org/search.php?query=s) are a minor obsession going back to a childhood spent listening to my grandma's secret short wave radio.

  9. Anubis Met Tron is a generative #ambient #electronic album I released which incorporates #shortwaveRadio and #numbersStations in an attempt to meld the unstructured music with highly structured speech. Call it an experiment.

  11. "The Swedish Rhapsody". Creepy, sounds like it should be the soundtrack for the death video in "The Ring". #numbersstations
