I bought a Dead Pan Rangers CD on a whim in a junk shop and because the titles and cover and really liked it so brought "Not much less further than last time" a while back on line and it has this track on it "California Dream" I've been listening to it in the wagon as it's Blu-tooth WORKS and am reacquainted. Wow: The Clean meets Steve Reich with afterburner fuzz kicks.

The Enemy started in 1977 and along with The Clean, they're one of the first bands released on Flying Nun, and widely considered to be forerunners of "the Dunedin Sound". A quick search of BandCamp turns up a lot of bands called The Enemy, but nothing quite like the original kiwi iteration.

Probably heard it late one night in 1985 on #WFMU while I was still in high school. Helped seal my lifelong love for oddball, jangly indie pop(as well as low-budget, moody music videos!).
