After talking to #virginmedia chat for 2 hours it seems the reason my #netflix went from standard to standard with adverts is because they bill 2 months in advance and my contract ends in 2 months - wtf?

After an hour on hold with #VirginMedia Ireland I managed to have the "I would like to cancel service" conversation with their retention drone.

I'm assured that Virgin have fiber available at my address today (they don't, despite virgin media wholesale having nailed fibre to our gutters nine months ago).

Also that OpenEir won't have fibre available here for six months (despite my having had it installed a month ago).

I'm so much less concerned about leaving them than I was this morning.

Oh dear. As a #Brsk customer I've been migrated to #YouFibre, but now I'm getting marketing emails for the latter saying they'll buy me out of my current contract (with them) if I switch to them.

Nice to know that they offer 200Mbit for the same price I'm currently paying for 150 though, that's probably worth looking into. Only a 12 month contract so I should be able to escape before #VirginMedia, the new owners of YouFibre, screw everything up.

E-mail will go (through relays) to my own server, once I get that tied down. Progress is being made in that direction.

And then it will be down to the connection, and byebye #Virgin, and their inflation +3.5% scam for good.

Looking at possibly leaving Virgin Media for Toob as VM won't give me a good deal, and Toob is one of the only other companies I can go for due to cables in the UK often being dial up speeds my location.

Virgin's left hand doesn't know what Virgin's right hand is doing... and what it is doing is sticking sharp objects up Virgin's own bum.

They had a rep at our door every other week to sell us their FTTP.

We did decide it looked like it made sense for us in the end, and in our last place we were trouble free Virgin customers for over 6 years.

Yesterday I got a call to tell me they would be at our place to do the install 13:00-18:00 this Saturday.

Then today I got this text.

I put the order in on December 17th... install now rescheduled to 17th of fucking March.

(This is must be about the 4th, maybe 5th, reschedule.)

As somebody who escaped #VirginMedia for #Brsk, I'm deeply unhappy about this news. Probably won't jump ship immediately but I anticipate rising prices, worse customer support, and more web filtering over the next few years.

I'm just hoping they don't go the whole hog and remove #IPv6 support which Virgin still doesn't have.

Come on #VirginMedia - all recordings or viewings from C4 are broken up. As is the first episode of the new Mock the Week on TLC.

And streaming from C4 is not great either.

And the web site does nothing to help me sort it.

I don't know why I was expecting any different, given my past dealings with #virginmedia but changing a service package when you don't want their retention offers is like pulling teeth...

Broadband down today, might be a quiet day!

I've noticed an oddity this evening. From home, using Virgin Media, I can't connect to #radicle on https://radicle.xyz - I connected as recently as a day or two ago.

("Can't connect" as in "SSL is completely fscked", says openssl.)

Bring up a VPN - Mullvad or Proton - and it's working fine.

The easy conclusion is that #virginmedia are blocking Radicle for some reason, but easy doesn't mean right and seems odd in this case. Anyone else got input?

#VirginMedia in the UK never change. Somehow I must have added myself back to their marketing list (I took myself off when 2 or 3 sales reps would call me at the same time). Anyway, they tried to persuade me that they were reviewing my usage after a local network upgrade and Gigabit cable would be best.
I know Gigabit cable has been available in my area for ages. Apparently they could do me a deal of paying £9 more per month. Gigabit only costs £5 more than I am paying.

Oh no, it's time for the annual call to #VirginMedia because my contract is coming to an end. I hate these dark patterns.

Does the Virgin Media status checker say that there is no outage? Yes
Has there, in fact, been a massive Virgin Media outage in my area since just after 12? Also yes.
Was I told on the phone by the customer service drone that there was an outage, engineers were already working on it, and I should check my connection again in 24 hours? Also also yes.

I'd call them a clown show, but that would be incredibly unfair to actual clowns.
