  1. Stimming as Self-Knowledge: Listening to Your Body

Stimming is often misunderstood as a behavior to be managed, but for many neurodivergent people it functions as a form of self-knowledge — a direct channel between the nervous system and conscious awareness. This article explores stimming as a body-based language, examining what different self-stimulatory behaviors communicate about sensory load, emotional state, and regulation needs. Rather than treating stimming as a problem to be corrected, the piece invites readers to reframe it as meaningful information worth listening to, and considers what becomes possible when we stop masking our bodys signals and start interpreting them instead.

  2. The stim/tic post I did earlier became an internet rabbit hole I fell down. Which became an overly long blog post.

The answer to "is this a stim or a tic?" seems to be "it's complicated." Which is both validating and annoying.

Post also includes: a list of my greatest vocal hits, MrsVark finding my weird noises comforting, and the understanding that "more symptoms" may actually just be "less masking."

  8. Busy music on purpose to give the feeling in my skin and bones as the stimulation rises

The 5 Levels of Neurodivergent Overstimulation

    The "Background Hum" (Irritability):

    • The Vibe: You're fine, but you're not fine.

    • The Trigger: A light is too bright, or there are two different sources of audio playing (e.g., the TV is on and someone is playing a TikTok out loud).

    • The Symptom: You start getting "short" with people for no reason.

The "Statistically Impossible" noise (Focus Loss):

    • The Vibe: Your brain stops processing

    • The Trigger: Someone is tapping a pen or whispering while you're trying to read.

    • The Symptom: You have to read the same sentence 10 times because the "noise" is taking up all the RAM in your brain.

    "T-Rex Arms" & Stimming

    (The Shutdown):

    • The Vibe: You stop moving "normally."

    • The Trigger: Too many people asking you questions at once.

    • The Symptom: Your hands go into "raptor" position, you start rocking, or you go completely silent because speaking feels like it requires altogether too
    much energy.

    The "Texture Trauma" (Physical Discomfort):

    • The Vibe: Your skin feels "too tight."

    • The Trigger: You suddenly become aware of your waistband, your hair touching your neck, or your socks being slightly damp/twisted.

    • The Symptom: You have to change your clothes immediately or you will lose your mind.

The "Total System Error" (The Meltdown/ Burnout):

    • The Vibe: The world needs to end for 20 minutes.

    • The Trigger: One final, tiny thing like dropping a fork or a door slamming.

The Symptom: You need a dark room, noise- canceling headphones, and zero human contact for the next 3 to 5 business days.

Yea… it's lots of brassy or yearning musicals and swelling choruses and soaring classical and churning rock/folk/alternative… That's how we roll.

  28. Bought a few things the other day including a few DVDs of Griffin’s films, an icepack held in a kind of belt (of course it’s too small, whoops). That and the squishy pastel pink and blue hedgehogs need to go back cos I didn’t realise they flash a red light as well. Nope. They’re #FidgetToys for #stimming btw, not random cuteness.

I also bought four pots of #playdoh I thought would be nice to squish, and yaas, they are.

  30. Kids, puppies, kitten, calves, foals - all animals that live with humans should at a young age experience stimming, meltdowns, different gaits, mobility devices and such as normal parts of society. Which. They. Are.

  35. That mindless touching… 💫

As followers of this blog site can’t have missed, a little over 6 weeks ago, I lost my furry soulmate… 💔 It was during a week that already had started with pain and trauma, and apparently, the week wanted to end in tears… 😭

With the help of many lovely and caring people, I was able to have Arwen cremated privately, so the ashes were/are purely hers. I have a beautiful urn for her, and they saved some ashes separately for a pendant, that I got the week later. Since then, a tiny bit of Arwen has been with me, and it helps, but not enough… 😢
