  1. Maybe it's a rather far shot but, could anyone out there share their experience using OpenQDA for qualitative research? And has at least comparative experience using QualCoder or MAXQDA/Atlas.ti? :neocat_boop:

Concerning coding text and analysis, usability and reliability. I'm not interested in any of the AI related functionality, just bog standard social sciences qualitative analysis
    :neocat_thumbsup:.
*Oh, please spare me ye old school recs like using Excel/Word for coding text segments
    :neocat_boop_googly:.*

    Thank you! Boosts appreciated

  3. The #ICanHazPDF hash-tag is active on the Fediverse.

I remember that hash-tag (ICanHazPDF) starting in (I think) the year 2011.

    ...

A lot of scholarly papers are paywalled. ICanHazPDF is a way for those who don't have "academic access" to ask for a copy of the paper.

    ...

ICanHazPDF was a play on the "I Can Has Cheezburger" (ICHC) meme.

  8. CW: that was fast! solved: https://doaj.org/ and https://ddh.diamas.org/

Dear , is there an up-to-date list somewhere of scientific journals that do not require article processing charges and ideally are also ?

It's wild to me that authors or their institutions have to *pay* for the privilege of their important scientific work being published somewhere.

    Thank you!

  13. We should take this as an opportunity to ask — WHY?

And — how could we improve things on the Fediverse to be attractive to scientists?

    ...

BTW, I was part of Science-Twitter, back when I used to be active on Twitter. And, wanted to be part of a Science-Fedi, too.

    So, this affected me, too.

  18. Scientists have discovered a new core at the center of the Earth
    washingtonpost.com/climate-env

"Back in my day, there were only four layers of Earth: the crust, mantle, liquid outer core and solid inner core. Now, scientists have revealed a new, distinct layer within our planet’s inner core, which could help inform the evolution of Earth’s magnetic field."

    Cool!
