  1. Maybe it's a rather far shot but, could anyone out there share their experience using OpenQDA for qualitative research? And has at least comparative experience using QualCoder or MAXQDA/Atlas.ti? :neocat_boop:

Concerning coding text and analysis, usability and reliability. I'm not interested in any of the AI related functionality, just bog standard social sciences qualitative analysis
    :neocat_thumbsup:.
*Oh, please spare me ye old school recs like using Excel/Word for coding text segments
    :neocat_boop_googly:.*

    Thank you! Boosts appreciated

  2. Typical case sampling helps you describe what is common in a group or setting, especially when time for data collection is limited. Rather than focusing on extremes, you select cases that reflect routine practice. It can be especially useful for applied projects that aim to inform practice or policy.

  3. Rigor isn’t only about collecting good data. It’s also about how you justify the quality and coherence of your claims. Two common paradigms can guide that evaluation: the rationalistic paradigm, focused on validity and reliability, and the naturalistic paradigm, focused on trustworthiness. Making your framework explicit helps you report rigor more clearly.

  4. Member checking helps you test whether your interpretations make sense to the people who shared their experiences. Used thoughtfully, it can strengthen ethics and rigor by inviting feedback on meaning, surfacing misunderstandings, and documenting how interpretations were reviewed. It can be used after interviews, during analysis, or when drafting findings.

  5. Transferability in qualitative research helps readers judge whether findings fit other comparable settings. You can strengthen it through rich description of context, reflexivity, and data triangulation. When your setting and analytic choices are clearly documented, others can assess fit without overclaiming.

  7. Uncovering depth in qualitative research requires more than quick interviews. Prolonged engagement allows you to build trust, gather richer data, and better understand context. It strengthens credibility, dependability, and confirmability. More than time, it is about meaningful interaction that reflects real experiences.

  8. @mediaofcoop Thank you for this report. Your concluding statement regarding AI-supported qualitative analysis is very plausible. This is exactly my impression, too:

"The LLM-led analyses tended to privilege broadly applicable and generalized narratives, often at the expense of interpretive depth, thereby creating an epistemic distance between researchers and the data."

  9. Strong research begins with dependable analysis. In qualitative studies, ensuring reliability is not optional, it is essential. Strategies like test-retest, inter-rater checks, parallel forms, and internal consistency contribute to more credible findings. Whether for a thesis, dissertation, or applied research, these methods help build trust in your results.

  10. A systematic literature review is more than a summary, it’s a rigorous, replicable method for analyzing existing research in depth.
It helps you identify key findings, expose gaps, and build stronger theoretical frameworks.
QDAcity guides you through every phase, from search to synthesis, ensuring your review is clear, methodical, and credible.

  11. Trying out #OpenQDA and it's good! Still not a lot of features, but hopefully it'll grow. The Github community seems enthusiastic. I've been using CATMA, but I think I'm moving.

  13. Just a quick update on my search for a qualitative data analysis tool that works with Linux:
I found a list of tools and am checking them one by one.

If you have any experience of using any of the tools mentioned in the list, especially in a Linux environment, I would love to hear from you!

  14. This is awful. I'm backing up my research data from EndNote + Atlas.ti because I can't use them on Linux. I tried switching to Zotero and Taguette, but the data migration process is problematic: I lost groups with Zotero and Taguette doesn't support QDPX file import. 😤
Does anyone know of a QDA tool for Linux that supports QDPX file import (Project Exchange Format for Qualitative Data)?
