A doctoral student recently came with a weird question: their supervisor told them that "examiners would be reassured" by seeing many connections on LinkedIn.
I have many ethical issues with the framing and with LinkedIn itself (despite having an account there), but I'd love to know from experienced scholars (maybe examiners themselves): how and why would examiners be concerned with my LinkedIn account?

"That means that you can take risks. You can ignore the prior art. You can push further and discover what your tastes are and how you might make better software, and differently shaped software. Use those new powers to build the future, not to another piece of the past."

So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?
Pools only have 10 choices, so more countries are in the next post 🙂

And if I have missed any hashtags that are followed by many scientists, please add

I'm regularly thinking that it would be useful to have a tool that helps me find articles that cite a paper to contradict (or at least "contrast") its result.

It seems that scite [1] does this but they requires a pretty steep subscription given that I'm not sure how reliable their tool is and that they also advertise a chatbot...

Does anyone know of something similar, or a workaround to achieve something similar using standard scientific search engines?
